Sawyer and J.T. looked at each other and laughed, then J.T. picked up his menu. “Let’s order some lunch.”

Sage picked up her menu, too. “Well, it seems all the Pierson family is in town. I ran into Joey and Finn at the bakery.”

Sawyer shook his head. “You really need to stop stalking that guy.”

“I’m not stalking him. His kids are going to be attending the horse camp.”

J.T. looked at her. “Kids?”

“They’re actually his nieces and nephews. But he’s raising them. Isn’t that amazing?”

“He’s raising his nieces and nephews?”

“Yes. Their parents died. Xander’s brother and his wife. Now Xander is raising their five kids.”

Sawyer leaned forward. “Five kids?”

“Yes.”

“Hmm. I guess that is kind of amazing.”

J.T. pointed at Sage. “And should be a giant red flag for you to steer clear of him.”

“I just helped him get his kids into the camp. I’m not interested in Xander other than his muffins.”

Sawyer laughed. “That’s what we’re afraid of. When you start admiring some guy’s muffins, trouble is sure to follow.”

“Shut up.”

J.T. laughed, then looked at Sage. “Did you talk to Joey?”

“Yes. Briefly. She rushed off pretty quick.”

“She thinks you all hate her.”

Sawyer set his menu aside. “She’s not wrong.”

J.T. turned to him. “For my sake, you need to try to get along with her. Lay Freddy out if you want. But Joey, you have to be civil to. I need this to work without too much drama.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll be nice. And I’m looking forward to hanging out with the kid. When is he coming to the ranch?”

“He’s coming over tomorrow to meet Dad, Ember, and Granddad. But I don’t want to overwhelm him. So…”

“We’re not invited?”

“Not this time, no.”

Sawyer nodded. “Okay. I get it.”

“Thank you. And I was kidding about laying out Freddy.”

“Right. Got it.”

“Sawyer?”

Sawyer raised his hands. “I will cross the street next time I see him.”

“Thank you.”
