“It’s human nature, honey. We were put on this earth to go forth and multiply. Your dad’s just trying to follow the Word.”

Sage laughed. “Wow.”

“Amen.”

As Jake and Ember sat side by side on the edge of the bed, Jake nudged her. “What’s going through your mind?”

She put her head on his shoulder. “I’m a little scared.”

“Of?”

“Of it being negative, I think.”

“It’s not going to be negative.”

She looked at him. “Are you ready to be a father again?”

“Absolutely.”

She took a deep breath. “Okay. Let’s go find out.”

They stood and went to the bathroom, but Ember stopped before going in and hugged Jake. “It’ll be okay either way, right?”

“Yes. If you’re not pregnant, it just means we get to keep trying.”

“So, there’s really no downside?”

“Not as far as I’m concerned.”

She nodded, and they went into the bathroom and looked at the test sitting on the counter.

Ember whispered, “Two lines.”

“Which means?”

She hugged him again. “It means we’re going to have a baby.”

He cupped her face in his hands and kissed her. “We’re going to have a baby?”

“Yeah.”

They returned to the bed and sat down. “The next question is, do we tell everyone right away? Or do we keep it to ourselves for a few weeks?”

“Well, they say—whoevertheyare—that you should wait a couple of months to announce a pregnancy. But to me, that’s admitting or anticipating something might go wrong.”

“I agree with that thinking. Yours, nottheirs. So?”

“I want to tell the family. How do you think they’re going to take it?”

“I think they are all expecting it to happen. So, not too surprising.”

She smiled. “Good. Can we tell them at dinner?”

“We’ll make the announcement. I’ll call Genny and tell her she needs to come to dinner.”

“Yes. The whole family. That’s great.”

“And what about your family? Are you going to call them?”
