“Tomorrow. But I might call Scott tonight. I have to think about it.”

“It’s totally up to you. So when do you need to see the doctor?”

“I’ll call on Monday and make an appointment.” She took his hand. “Will you come with me?”

“Of course.”

They talked for a while longer, then went downstairs. When Jake saw Jacob and Sage drive by the house with an occupied horse trailer, he went to meet them at the barn to check out the new horse.

“Looks like you bought us another horse.”

Jacob smiled. “He’s a beauty. Wait until you see him work with the cows. He may even be better than Teton.”

“No way.”

Sage opened the back of the horse trailer. “Come on, Cash. Back it up.” The horse backed out of the trailer. “He responds really well to verbal commands.”

“Did you ride him?”

“No, Granddad did. But I’d love to ride him when we move the herd.”

“You might have to draw straws with your grandfather.”

Jake looked at the gray horse with three white socks and a blaze between his eyes. He took hold of his halter and looked into his eyes. “Yeah. You’re a smart one, aren’t you?” He handed the lead line to Sage. “Go get him set up in a stall.” Sage left with the horse and Jake looked at Jacob. “He looks great.”

“I’m glad I had Sage with me. Like you said, she has a good eye.”

“I didn’t mean to flake on you. Ember and I had something important to do.”

Jacob looked at him. “I believe you’re telling me the truth.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, before, I figured you wanted some alone time.”

“Geez, Dad.”

“Well, it’s no secret you two are…let’s just say, very much in love.”

“Wow.”

Jacob laughed. “I best go see to dinner.”

“Genny is joining us.”

Jacob studied Jake for a moment. “The whole family for dinner. Does this have something to do with the important thing you and Ember had to do?”

“Just wait for dinner, Dad.”

“You look worried.”

“I’m not worried about anything.” He sighed. “Fine. I’m a little worried. Not worried, really. More…scared.”

“What’s going on? Is Ember okay?”

“She’s fine. She’s better than fine. Actually, she’s pregnant.”

Jacob smiled. “Shit. You had me worried there for a minute.”
