“What?”

“Xander.”

He glanced at the man approaching them. “Who?”

“The bakery guy. Betty’s nephew.”

Xander reached them, and Sage turned and smiled at him. “Hey.”

Xander nodded. “Ranch girl.”

She scowled, then glanced toward Sawyer. “This is my brother, Sawyer.”

“Nice to meet you, Sawyer.”

Sawyer shook hands with him. “Hell of a cake you made.”

“Thank you. But Aunt Betty made most of it. I just finished it up.”

“When is she going to be back?”

He shrugged. “Don’t know yet. I might bearound a while.”

“Well, in that case, welcome.”

“Thank you.” Xander glanced at Sage. “See you around.”

He left and Sage watched him go with a low growl.

Sawyer laughed. “You thought he was going to ask you to dance. And the fact he didn’t pisses you off. Even though you want me to think you didn’t want to dance with him.”

Sage shoved him. “Shut up. Xander Hutchins is the last man in the world I’d want to dance with.” She looked at Sawyer. “Except maybe for you.”

“I love you too, Little Sis.”

J.T. came up to them. “What’s going on here? You two are standing next to each other and not fighting.”

Sawyer laughed. “We’re on our best behavior, seeing as it’s Dad’s wedding day and all.”

“How thoughtful of you.”

Sage sighed. “I’m going to go get a glass of wine.”

J.T. watched her go. “What’s with her?”

“The guy she didn’t want to dance with didn’t ask her to dance. Which pissed her off.”

“Ahh. Okay. What guy?”

“Betty’s nephew. He’s here in town working the bakery while she’s gone.”

“Oh yeah, that Xander guy. He used to come to the ranch with his brother and ride horses.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I sort of remember him.”

“Is he a good guy?”
