Leaving trails of longing that still lingers,

She's the one I'll cherish through the night and day,

My love for her will never fade away.

I hate that song. It represents the past. How I let Indy go. How I was planning to live my life without her.

No more. I’m winning her back. Which is what the new song is about. But I’m not discussing my love life with these jokers.

“Did you bring the whole band with you?” I ask Dylan.

“Duh. It’s no fun breaking into a house on my own.”

Gibson climbs in the window followed by Jett. Fender brings up the rear.

“I don’t know why we have to climb through the window,” Fender complains as he shuts the window behind him.

Jett elbows him. “Where’s your sense of adventure?”

“Not all of us are adrenaline junkies.”

“I prefer the term adrenaline aficionado. Has a nice ring to it.” He smiles before lifting up a bag I didn’t notice he was carrying with him. “I brought beer.”

“And I brought snacks,” Gibson adds.

I groan. “You guys realize we’re old enough to go to bars now. We don’t need to have picnics in our bedrooms anymore.”

When we were still struggling to get gigs and living off minimum wage, we’d gather in Dylan’s bedroom of his apartment. We’d play music, eat junk food, drink beer, and talk about all the money we’d have when we were big rockstars.

Until his roommate would bang on the wall and threaten to call the cops on us. Trust me. It’s not easy to flee from thecops when you’re carrying a guitar while trying to make sure Jett doesn’t pull down his pants and moon the ‘pigs’.

“What do we think of Cash’s new song?” Dylan asks once everyone is sitting on the floor with a beer and the bag of chips open in front of us.

“It’s good,” Gibson says.

“I can rock to it,” Jett adds.

“Does this mean you’re finally going to pull your head out of your ass and get your girl back?” Fender asks.

There’s no denying it. They know me too well. “Yep.”

Jett groans. “We’re going to end up staying in Winter Falls forever.”

“What’s wrong?” Gibson taunts. “Worried you’ll run out of women to trick into sleeping with you?”

“I don’t have to trick them. With one glance at this man, they’re in.” Jett winks.

“If you want to win Indigo back, you’re going to have to tell her why you left,” Dylan says.

“Not happening.”

“Tell her you’re an idiot who made a mistake,” Fender suggests.

Dylan snorts. “Indigo knows better. She knows you’re not telling her the truth.”

I groan. It’s true. She does. But I will do everything in my power to prevent her from learning the truth. Because the truth will destroy her. And it’s my job to protect her.

“Drop it,” I growl at Dylan. “The truth will only hurt her.”
