“What makes you so sure?” Quint wanted to know.

“Because I gave the evidence of what happened that day to the priest and asked him to make sure he gave it to the cartel. I wanted them to find the truth.”

Quint and the men he brought with him looked at each other then looked at her. “I think they got it.”

“Then Micha is a dead man walking.” She nodded. “What about Joyce? We saw on the news she was wounded.”

Quint nodded. “She was completely out of her mind last night when things settled down. She didn’t even realize she’d been hit. We got her to the hospital and she’s still there. She’s under arrest of course under a number of charges and the next few days are going to be rough for her as she detoxes but that’s how it goes with junkies. She’s not a happy camper at the moment.”

“She’s lucky she isn’t dead.” Bear growled.

“Oh, that woman isn’t happy about anything right now,” Quint announced.

“Too damn bad isn’t it?” Bear snapped. “Don’t you dare feel sorry for that bitch.”

“Oh, I don’t feel sorry for her one little bit.” Quint shook his head. “Karma is going to have her way with your mother I assure you. She is going to pay for a lifetime of using and abusing people. It’s just hard to know what she’s going to go through, that's all. Crashing for a high is never pleasant and that woman’s been high for years. Hell has got nothing on what she’s going to experience in the coming days.”

“What we have to worry about is the time between now and the time the cartel catches Micha.” Silas stated.

“Does Micha know about this place?” Quint asked.

“I don’t know.” Midge shrugged. “But he might since Joel had been here.”

“We can protect this place,” Tate assured the FBI agents.

“We’ll leave you guys alone then but we will need to stay in contact with Midge concerning her evidence,” the other agent told them.

“Then you know where she’ll be but make sure you call her first.” Silas growled. “I don’t want just anyone tramping through this place.”

Tate looked over at him.” We will protect the place, Dad. No one is ever going to do that shit again.”

Silas nodded and turned to leave the room.

Midge followed him out to the porch.

He stood looking off into the pasture.

“So, you gonna tell me about it?” Midge asked as she came out to the porch.

Silas sighed. “We had enemies in our MC. They tore my family apart. One day, they came out here and I had to run, there had been so many.”

“So that’s why the men all took months to repair the damage.”

He nodded. “They destroyed all of Rosa’s things.”

Midge placed her hand on his arm. “I know that must’ve been hard. But I gotta remind you...” She stepped close and patted his chest. “She’s in here and that is something they could never destroy.”

Silas placed his hand over hers. “You know woman, you might just be good for me?”

She laughed. “Well sure, you need someone to tell you stuff to your face and not back down.”

Silas turned and grabbed her up to kiss her. He deepened the kiss to a wild grapple of tongues and lips. His body felt light and he had to admit he loved the way this woman tasted. Then he pulled away and stepped back.

Midge was breathing heavily as she looked dazed, her lips were a startling pink from his kiss.

“And you need that at least once a day, so I don’t paddle that sweet pink ass of yours,” he told her.

Opening her mouth to argue, Silas kissed her words away.
