"There are?" I asked. I looked to the papers on the bed. Had he made a breakthrough?

"Yes. Like the fact that you scent marked half of my clothes and shoved them under my bed—and then tried to lie to me about it yesterday."

"Um…" My gaze snapped to him, eyes wide.

"Why did you hide them?"

I don’t know what I had been thinking. It had been a haze of instincts, and then panic… "I just thought… you’re annoyed at me for talking you into dark bonding me?—"

"I’m not annoyed at you."

"You… you aren’t?"

He cocked his head. "I’m annoyed at myself. Not you."

"You shouldn’t be."

"I don’t want you second-guessing those sexy instincts of yours," he growled. "Understand?”

I nodded.

"I have to punish you for that. And the lie."

Something molten trickled into my core. "Y-you do?"

"But first, we’re going to discuss my command the other day.”

“Oh…”

“When we came back and Roxy was here, I need you to know I didn’t mean for you to get hurt."

"I know," I replied. "You didn’t know I was going to fight it."

"I should have, and I’m sorry,” he said. He looked so earnest that I was getting all odd about it. I still wasn’t used to Dusk apologies. “I’m going to be more careful.”

I nodded. “Thank you.”

"Now.” He leaned back where he sat, raising an eyebrow. “Tell me why, when Ransom commanded you to kiss him back in the cabin, you got all hot and bothered."

Oh… I swallowed, suddenly finding his gaze very hard to meet. "Well…" I tapped my finger on my thigh. "It was sexy."

"I’m going to need a little more than that, Gem."

"It was like… I don’t know. He’s interested in me, and I like it when…" I trailed off, embarrassment making it impossible to meet his eyes.

"When what?"

Was I really about to admit this to Dusk?

"When he takes charge."

"Just Ransom?" he asked.

My voice was small as I wrung my shirt in my fists. "No."

"So. Tell me if I’m wrong: you like praise, you like it when I’m in charge…”

Oh shit. We were really going to talk about all of this?
