"Yeah. Absolutely."

Roxy got to her feet, then looked at me curiously when I didn't join her. "I just… I need some time to figure myself out," I said the last part quietly so Eric didn't hear.

She nodded. "Just… find me if you need anything else, okay?" she asked.

I nodded.

"And I mean anything," she whispered, as she bent down to pick up her bag.

"Thank you."

After she left, I sat for a long time, trying to untangle everything.

I was so confused.

Was Roxy really the friend I'd dreamed of for so long?

I couldn't quite get my head around it. Even with all the proof, it just seemed too good to be true.

I hugged my bag to my chest, mind racing through everything that had just happened.

Roxy had said it… that she thought the Kingsman pack wanted me, too. And it didn’t matter how many times I heard what they claimed was the truth, I didn’t know how to make it fit with me.

WhywouldDusk love me as I was?

Umbra and I… I fought the little smile on my lips. Umbra was like me. Different. And for some reason, that was easier to accept.

Ransom… Well, I don’t know. He was rich and good-looking, and I was worried about when he woke up properly.

But Dusk was the enigma. Completely and utterly.

I didn’t fit with a person like him. Not really. Up until now, it had been easy to be angry at him. To put him into a box and say he was having fun—taunting me, and taking things from me. I might not understand it, but I’d seen it before.

But now he wanted me to smash that all to pieces. To convince me he was serious?

Hecouldn’tbe serious.

I jumped at another knock on the door.

I frowned, then hurried over to it, cracking it open.

I was met by a set of green eyes and the sweet scent of passion fruit once more.

“Eric?” I asked, voice high. I tried to look past him, but I caught no scent of oranges and fir trees. “Where’s Roxy?”

“She wasn’t feeling social.”

Oh.

“Why are you here?” I asked.

“Thought I’d wait for you, but you didn’t come out.”

Had he been outside the whole time I’d been thinking? “You said you had to study?”

He folded his arms, watching me intently. “This was more important.”

“Important?”
