Dusk looked up first, and he was on his feet in a second, making for me, and I grabbed him by the shirt when he arrived.

She wasn’t an angel at all. She wasmyomega. Claimed and bonded to me.

And she was in trouble.

An alpha’s claim at her neck…

A claim she didn’t want…

Her terror burned through the old cobwebs of my mind, and I finally spoke the first word my brain was able to form.

“Shatter.”

FOURTEEN

SHATTER

“I need to talk to Roxy,” I said.

“Roxy?” Eric peered down at me oddly. “She wanted to dodge the party tonight. She’s out.”

Out?

I swallowed, clutching my pencil case close to my chest. “Do you know where she is?”

“Coffee shop or the library. Here, I can text her for you?—”

“No. That’s okay.” I was already taking a step back. I needed to find her myself. My head was pounding. I was so confused and on the verge of tears again.

“Wait.” Eric caught my arm as I stepped away, and I dared a glance up at him. “I’ll text her. You can wait with us.”

“Really. I-I’m okay?—”

“I have no intention of letting anything happen to you if you’re in trouble.” Those words stopped me dead.

“I’m not…” I trailed off.

How bad did I look? My eyes must still be red.

Iwasin trouble, though. That’s why I needed Roxy. She would know what to do. And she’d kept my secret.

But Eric was already tapping on his phone.

“I c-can’t come in.” They were having a party. He was dressed differently than earlier. Instead of his white school button-up, he wore a black dress shirt with a breast pocket, the top few buttons undone so it looked a bit more casual. “I’m not dressed right, and my hair?—”

“Is perfect,” Eric said, looking up at me sharply. There was something stiff in his words, and his jaw clenched. “It’s always been perfect, Shatter.”

I stared at him. Something caught in my throat.

“I told you, you’re important to us. Please, just wait here until Roxy’s back—I’ll worry otherwise. She shouldn’t be long.”

The mention of Roxy settled my nerves.

“I’ve already texted her,” he added, taking a step back and nodding inside. “She’ll be on her way.”

Oh.

Shit. Now if I went searching I might miss her.
