I could wait here for a bit, and he knew I wasn’t here for the party…

Still, I took a breath before entering the party, letting Eric walk in front of me so he could take the lead. It was loud, with music playing and people in each room. Alphas, omegas, and betas chatted on couches, playing games or standing about with red cups in hand.

“Let’s get you a drink,” Eric said as he led me into the kitchen. “You look like you could use one.”

“I…” I trailed off as I saw Oliver Ryder and Jasmine Lynn staring at me from through the door to the living room. Jasmine had frozen, a drink halfway to her lips, eyes wide. “I really shouldn’t be here,” I said. “I can wait for her outside.”

The omegas already thought so badly of me. I didn’t want them getting the wrong idea about me and the Lincoln pack.

What if Roxy came in and read it all wrong and then she wouldn’t talk to me?

And I’d brought my pencil case. It had my registration card in it and was super important, but even I knew that wasn’t something you were supposed to bring to a party.

Eric brushed a lock of my hair, and I looked up at him sharply. “I’m taking care of you until Roxy gets here.” He turned and picked up a red cup from a stack, handing it to me, waving at the selection of glass bottles along the counter. “What do you like?”

Uhhh… I glanced at them, unsure, trying not to shoot a glance back at Jasmine and Oliver. I edged closer to the counter, trying to read the labels as if I knew what any would mean. I’d barely ever drank at the Estate—maybe a glass of wine here or there.

“You alright?” Eric asked.

“Yes.” I reached for one with golden liquid at random, trying to seem confident. He was being so nice. I needed to pretend to be normal for five minutes until Roxy arrived. I couldn’t look foolish in front of Eric.

I wasn’t stupid enough to believe he was the kind of man who wanted a beachfront wedding with a gold pack omega. It was unlikely he’d even want me pursuing a career. I knew that, but I might be back at square one, and my scent matches might end up becoming my only option.

No.Don’t cry.

I was so scared of what the future held now—or the idea that the Kingsman pack might not be in it…

Don’t think about it, not until you talk it out.

I looked between the bottle and the glass desperately, wishing someone else would come in and make one before me.I shouldn’t fill the whole thing, definitely not, but how much should I use?

I glanced back at Eric who was watching me curiously, a faint smile on his lips.

“I can pour it for you?”

I stared at him.

“Um…” I stammered, when too long had passed. “Sure, just… not too strong.”

“Half strength,” he said, almost to himself. Then he glanced back up as if he couldn’t take his eyes from me as he unscrewed the top. “Don’t party that much?”

“Not really.”

Would he think that was strange?

“Where did you grow up?” he asked.

“Around here,” I lied.

He grabbed one of the small glasses on the counter. I watched carefully, flashes of my first meeting with Dusk coming to mind.

He drugged your drink and stole you from the alpha right here. Why are you sad about running from him?

Eric tipped the bottle, eyes sliding back to me for half a moment. I smiled nervously, trying not to seem too intense.

I crossed my arms, forcing my gaze down the hall to the rest of the party, but as soon as he turned back to the bottle, I watched again. He poured the alcohol into the glass twice over, then filled the rest of the cup up with coke.

I memorised it so I didn’t look stupid in case there was a next time. Easy: two of the little glasses, fill the rest with coke. Double it if I wanted a normal drink.
