“Tell us what you need, Shatter,” he said.

“I just…” I failed to stop my glance over at Oliver and Jasmine. “I don’t want anyone thinking anything that might hurt Roxy,” I said.“I really need her.”

“Alright. Come on.” Eric got to his feet and nodded for me to follow.

“Where are we going?” I asked. When I stepped to follow him, the world spun a little.

Oh. Damn.

I shook it off, looking down at my cup and realising it was empty.

“Somewhere quieter,” Eric said, as we reached the next room, which was just as loud, but at least didn’t have Oliver and Jasmine in it. “You said you wanted to talk to Roxy alone anyway, right?”

“Yes.”

Thank God.

“I get the impression you find crowds a bit overwhelming.”

I thought back to the way they stared at my stupidity at the bar last week. “Was I…?” I swallowed. “I’m probably making a fool of myself.”

“Nah.” He shrugged. “I don’t do well in crowds either, though Gareth still insists on hosting these damn things.”

“Oh…”

Either he was telling the truth, or he was making an effort to make me more comfortable.

I set my cup down on the counter as we passed the kitchen and hurried after him down the hall where it was quieter. Eric opened a door for me, but before I stepped in, I noticed one of the Hargrave pack alphas–Jericho, I think, watching from the doorframe he was leaning against in the kitchen as he chatted to another party-goer.

That was okay. It was a relief to be away from all the watching eyes, and if anyone talked about it, Roxy would know I was just waiting for her.

“Um…” I paused as I stepped in. This was a bedroom—Eric’s bedroom, I knew straight away from the scent of passionfruit. “Is this right?”

Eric just gave me a strange look.

Was I asking stupid questions? My mind was slower than usual. Calm, which was good, but slower.

“She knows to find me here, right?” I asked, glancing around again.

The large bed was neatly made, and there was a desk with an open textbook. I was in my mate’s bedroom. And it was so… normal looking and straight and all lined up.

What would he think of how I nested?

Stupid.

No decisions. Not yet.

He was leaning against the closed door, watching me curiously. I think I was imagining the intensity in his gaze.

“Roxy doesn’t know about what you said… earlier.” I twisted my hands together anxiously. “She should know.”

“Does that mean you’re considering us?” he asked.

“I… no… I don’t know.”

I was.

I had to.
