Dusk didn’t let go of her as he dug into his pocket, but his eyes found mine.

“Are you okay?” he asked, voice rough.

I nodded, though it was a lie. How could I be when she wasn’t?

Dusk drew out his keys and tossed them to Umbra.

“We’re going to the cabin.”

“But—” Umbra began, and I felt the tense hatred in him through the bond.

Dusk cut him off, the full weight of pack lead in his words.

“We’re. Going.”

DUSK

The moment Shatter was in the car I shut the door behind her.

She needed a few moments alone—safe. Ransom was staring at the tinted windows looking lost, and I’d never felt Umbra this dark in the bond before.

I was shaking.

Everything I was terrified of had happened. They’d got ahold of her. Tormented her, humiliated her?—

“They sent a video around campus.” Umbra’s voice was low, and he looked a second from cracking his phone.

I shoved it down. “Don’t watch it.”

“We don’t know what happened?—”

“She’sthe priority.”

The cabin wasn’t just for Shatter.

I needed Umbra out of here, too. His demon had surfaced, his side of the bond nothing but fury. I hadn’t seen this side of him for a long time. I needed him on a different hemisphere from the Lincoln pack, or they’d both be dead by morning.

Ransom, at least, had been able to touch them without nearly fucking dying, though. I had no idea why, but I’d deal with it later.

I couldn’t say I wasn’t at risk of getting us both killed either. Dread was a swamp at the back of my mind, threatening to drag me in.

I would kill them.

Wewould.

Just…Fuck.

Not yet.

“Her first.”

I was dialling Decebal’s number, leaning against the closed door, praying he’d pick up. And she could have a few moments alone and I could figure out what the fuck to do.

My hands were shaking, her fear piercing me to my marrow.

What had they done?

How long had she been gone?
