He just smiles sweetly and it makes me want to punch him in his beautiful face. Preferably right in that perfect jaw line just to mess up his face a bit.

“I got one,” Ax says, leaning across the counter. “Why did you give your dad decision making authority?”

I roll my eyes. “First off, that conversation was none of your business. But that’s an even easier question. I fucking didn’t.”

Ax glances at the other two and I turn to follow his lead with a dismissive shrug.

“Fine. Don’t believe me. But I only found out today during my doctor's appointment.”

“When did he get that authority?”

I’m about to answer but stop myself with a grin. “That’s another question.”

Eli laughs and Ax’s lips twitch up as he fights back a grin. “Fine. But I’ll be fair and let you know that some things we won’t answer. So, save your breath asking why you live here.”

I shrug. “Fine.”

I hop up on the kitchen island next to Asher as Eli puts the pizza in the preheated oven. Asher offers me some of his chips and I shake my head as I try to think of a question worth asking.

“Alright,” I say, eyeing them. “Let’s see.”

I smirk at their waiting faces.

“Were you lying earlier? About not knowing anything about my mom’s death?”

The words just fall out and I guess my mind has decided to just shoot my shot on whether they will answer or even be honest. Part of me is desperate to hear that I’m not actually being forced to live with guys who may have had a hand in my mother’s murder, or be associated with anyone involved. How fucked would it make me that I’m sitting here having a beer and heating up pizza with them if that were the case?

“I said The Vipers had nothing to do with it and I meant it,” Eli reiterates.

I wait for a minute as he holds my gaze and I finally nod.

“Well, sorry then, I guess.”

Eli snorts and Asher shakes his head. “You gotta work on your apologies, baby girl.”

I wrinkle my nose at the pet name. “Ew, don’t call me that.”

“She prefers princess,” Ax smirks and Eli shakes his head as he laughs.

“Hey, Eli,” I say, eyeing him with a grin. “Do you still have any of that glitter paint anywhere?”

Ax’s face falls. “If you go near my room…”

“Payback’s a bitch,princess.”

“My question,” Ax says, cutting off the laughter in the room. “Where were you the last four years?”

My face reddens. “Where did my dad say I was?”

“You always do what daddy says?” Ax snarls.

I glare at him. “Let’s see, he has decision making authority over my body indefinitely and I’m piss poor until I’m 21 and get access to my trust fund. So yeah, I try to be a good daughter and do as he says.”

The guys share a look like they are having a silent conversation I’m not allowed to be a part of. I roll my eyes at them. That’s just rude to leave me out as if they have some testosterone driven telepathy.

“What about you? Been busy for the last four years? Following in daddy’s footsteps?”

Ax glares at me and I see his fists clench. Eli just sighs.
