“One moment, sir.” I waited as Winston clicked several buttons to find the information I needed. “No, sir. Miss Silvers is still in her room.”

“Alright. If she checks out, inform me immediately.”

“I will, sir. Is everything alright?”

“Absolutely.” I cut the call, not waiting for any more questions that I was certain were on the tip of his tongue. I needed to makesure I kept her safe even though she didn’t want me near her. I could still find out everything about her, but before that, I had something more important.

She was turning into a werewolf because of me.

The first thing I needed to do was find out how to stop it from happening. I could not be the reason her normal, human life was taken from her. I had to make sure she was safe, and the only person who could help me was Carlos. I trusted no one like I trusted Carlos, and I knew he would have a solution. I picked my phone back up and dialed his number.

I had met Carlos when I was a teenager, and he had stood by me through everything. He was a werewolf who had left his pack to travel the world. He was old and worldly, yet nothing and no one could beat him.

“Carlos,” I called out the moment the line connected.

“Sebastian Huntington, to what do I owe the pleasure?” I could hear the smile in his voice and relief washed over me.

“It has been a long time since you have returned,” I said, not wishing to jump into Alexandra’s problem immediately.

“I will come soon, but right now, you must tell me her name.”

“Whose name?” I acted naïve even though I knew Carlos already had an idea. He knew everything. I never understood his powers, but they were with him due to his years of strict meditation.

“The woman you called to tell me about.”

“Alexandra Silvers.”

“I sense sorrow and worry in your voice, Sebastian. You must tell me what happened.”

“I think I have fallen in love with her. I am over the moon for her and can’t stop thinking about her. Part of me thinks she is my destined mate, even though the idea seems absurd. I don’t know what to do,” I replied, realizing how frustrated I was.

“You have something else to say, too,” Carlos added as if he knew my mind better than I did.

“I accidentally bit her, and I need to know if I can stop her from becoming a werewolf. I have no right to take away her life. Please, help me stop it.”

“You bit her accidentally?” Carlos asked, his voice still expressionless.

“Yes.”

“There is no cure for a wolf bite, Sebastian. If she is turning into a werewolf, it’s not your fault. It is simply a matter of time.” I felt as if my head would explode at Carlos’s words. I believed he had a solution for everything. Why were there no solutions for a wolf bite?

“It’s unfair to her,” I said, unable to understand what to do.

“Sebastian, if you believe she is your destined mate, you must tell her about the bite and your existence before it’s too late and she hates you forever. I wish I could help you with finding a solution to prevent her transformation, but it’s impossible.”

“Is it possible for a human to be my destined mate?” I asked, still in shock. I didn’t know where I would find the courage to tell her the truth, but I had no choice.

“It is alright for you to like a human, but if your heart and mind and gut keep calling her your mate, then perhaps she was not human in the first place. A werewolf cannot find a mate in a human,” Carlos explained, his words sounding sure even though they only confused me further.

“Then perhaps I am only imagining it?”

“No, you’re not, Sebastian.” I could feel his smile through the phone. “Tell me, did the attraction only come into existence after you two were physically intimate to whatever extent?”

“No. I was attracted to her the moment I saw her. I could not look away.” My words brought a smile to my face as I recalled our first encounter.

“That only tells me that she is not human. There is something about her that she’s hiding from you or perhaps doesn’t know herself.”

“Are you certain?”
