I rolled my eyes, and I leaned against the window. “I’m not tainted goods. What if she was fated?”

“Pierre was confident that it wasn’t fated. If it was fated, you would have left before you got drunk off your ass.”

“You said it was the leprechaun.”

“I guess you met Clover before she got you wasted.”

“What happens when I am kicked out, Nora?”

She shrugged. “I guess you will get to know your mate rather quickly. Here we are.” She parked in front of the pack house and jumped out of her car. I sighed. I didn’t want to do this. Nora was right. He was going to be mad about this entire situation. I stood up and walked inside.

Inside the pack house walls, everyone stilled to look at me. I wasn’t sure if they were picking up on Nora’s bad mood. I couldn’t remember how many wolves were at the bar last night. Did everyone know I hooked up with a human? I assumed I didn’t bite her in the bar, but at this point, anything could happen. Nora led me to the Alpha’s office. I swallowed as I walked in the door. Alpha Hale was behind his desk. He looked up from his papers and glared at me. Suspicion laced behind his eyes.

“What are you doing here, Vin?” His eyes flickered to Nora as she shut the door. She turned and leaned against the wall of the door. A flicker passed through Alpha Hale’s eyes as he was waiting for Nora to show submission to him. She smirked and refused to move. Nora was right. Her time in this pack was ending soon. Only Nora would be strong enough to leave her father’s pack. Anger pulsed through his features as he looked back at me. That trickle of magic passed between us as he demanded submission. My body quaked as my head tilted over, exposing my neck to him. A smirk spread as he glanced back at Nora. Nora glared at him as she crossed her arms. No submission.

“Why did you come here, Vin?” he asked.

“I mated a human. I don’t really know if it was by force or not. Don’t even know if it was fate. There is some evidence that it was a chosen connection,” I said.

“You mated with a human?”

“Yes, alpha. The bite mark was there this morning,” I said.

“Vin, I think it is best that you leave the pack.”

“Why? Many people have human mates in the pack.”

His eyes leveled with me. “You were already on thin ice because of your…” His eyes trailed to Nora. “Extracurricular activities. This is not what I want from our pack. Maybe you can find another pack that suits you and yourhumanmate,” he said.

“Fine,” I said. I turned and walked to my room. Nora was behind me.

“Are you taking me to my bike?”

She laughed. “We didn’t get your mate’s number. We can’t warn her you’re coming over.”

I turned as I reached my door. “This is no way to start a relationship.”

“No. It’s not, but you have to try. And if she kicks you out right away, I know of some places that would take you in till you can get a place.”

“What about you, Nora?”

“I’ve got to make a plan and I’m too known in this pack to escape right away. I should have warned you guys when I thought it was coming to a head,” she said. “I failed y’all,” she said. I pulled out my clothes and threw it in a suitcase.

“Well, I hope that place ain’t Gryn’s. I hate being around Chels and him.”

Nora rolled her eyes. “It’s complicated.”

“We’re shifters. Everything is complicated.”

“More for you. You have a mate, but you don’t even remember biting her.”

“I’m ready.” I picked up my stuff and walked out of my room for the last time.

Chapter 9

Clover

Trash from mydestroyedliving room filled the white bag. Hefting the trash bag over my shoulder, I opened my front door. Standing behind it,hewas there. He raised his arm like he was about to knock and held a suitcase in the other arm. I glared at him as I slung the trash bag on his feet. He gave me a sour expression.
