Did he drug me? The woman in front of me frowned.

“Vin, take the garbage out,” the woman commanded. She pointed to the door.

Vin’s head bobbed. “Did you bring your car?”

“Yes, I did. I see your bike is not here. So, I’m taking you home. Now garbage. I need to talk to your friend,” she said. Vin loaded his arms with wood and the box of glass and exited the apartment.

“Okay. What happened?”

“I went to the bar to party on St. Pat’s day.”

Nora nodded as she sipped her coffee. “No memory? So why did he call me? He sounds guilty.”

“I have a mark on my shoulder. He said it meant some stuff.

Nora spit her coffee back into her drink. Shock coursed over her face. “A bite mark?”

My eyes widened. “He bit me? Like an animal? I can’t see it!”

Nora put her coffee down and stood up. “Show me,” she said. I turned and pulled the shoulder of my shirt down. I could hear a gasp behind me.

“Is it that bad?” I asked.

She sat back down in front of me. “Tell me how you guys met.”

“I don’t remember.”

Nora blew out a breath and leaned back. “Wolf shifters exist. Vin is a wolf. He bit you. You guys are mates. I am not sure if it’s fate or what.”

“Excuse me? What are you saying?”

Nora took a long sip of her coffee. “Magic exists. Vampires exist. All that jazz. You are magically wed to Vin now. Congrats.”

“Magically married?”

“Yeah. But the thing is,” Nora pointed between her and me. “This is the simple part. The hard part hasn’t come.”

“What?”

“The alpha. He’s…not going to be happy about any of this.”

“Am I in trouble?”

Nora shook her head as exhaustion fell across her features. “No. Just Vin. Look, I am going to take him back to the pack. We’ll pick up his bike later and I guess y’all can talk.”

“Can we dissolve this?” I asked.

She blinked. She chewed on the side of her cheek. “Look, I don’t know what happened, but somehow the gods have gifted you with something. Something fated or chosen. Y’all should appreciate this. He still seems pretty hung over at the moment.”

Nora stood up and took her mug to the sink. She sucked in a deep breath at the sink before she turned around to face me again. She pulled out a phone and typed rapidly. “I’m sorry for snapping. It’s been stressful in the pack and this won’t help things. I am sure you are a wonderful person.”

Guilt and confusion washed over me. Have I made things worse for everyone? “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to cause you more issues.”

The door opened up. Vin walked inside the door. Nora glared at him. “Give me your phone.”

His shoulders fell. “Nor?—”

An animal growl erupted from the tall woman. My eyes widened as my mouth fell open. He pulled it out, and she looked through the phone. “Were you at the bar last night? What happened with Vin?” Nora nodded a few times. “Siobhan? What is she? Okay. Thanks.”
