I heard him the first time, but I have to ask again just to make sure…

“That’s correct.”

“Mother, is this what you want?”

Her answer is quick. “It is. Now leave us.”

I look down to hide my hurt, murmuring, “Have a good day.”

Odin says something in a low tone that has my mother laughing as I leave. Tears blind me by the time I reach my room, closing the door behind me. I go right to the bathroom, digging out the burner phone.

Flynn

Are you free tonight?

I am! What’s up?

Can you get me out of here?

Yup! Send me your address.

Thank you. You don’t know how much this means to me.

He doesn’t answer, so I tuck the phone in my back pocket and pad to the closet. Fuck both of them.

They leave at six and don’t even say goodbye. Why would they? They’ve made it clear how they feel about me. I’m currently sitting in the bathroom, phone in hand, trying my hardest not to be hurt by their actions.

My phone buzzes, scaring me.

Flynn

Just saw Daddy-O and mother dearest leaving. Give me five and be ready to make a dash to the elevator.

I’m ready.

Five minutes later, another text comes through.

Head that way. The doors will be open. I’ll take care of the rest.

Excitement courses through me. Tucking my phone in my bra, I make my way to my closet, grabbing a small wallet with some cash and my ID. It’ll look suspicious if I have a bag or purse, so this will have to do. Opening my door, I’m relieved that there aren’t any guards posted. I hurry as I make my way to the foyer. True to his word, the doors are wide open. Something that never happens. I rush in, standing to the side just in case someone walks by. The doors close and the elevator jerks as it moves.

It feels like it takes forever for the lift to reach the ground level. When the doors open, I’m greeted by Flynn’s smiling face. I throw my arms around his neck, hugging him tightly.

He hugs me back. “Hey now.” He leans back, looking at me. “That bad, huh?”

“Worse.”

“Let’s get out of here, babe.”

Hand-in-hand, we walk out of the noticeably empty lobby.

“Where are the doormen?”

Flynn shoots me a smile. “They had to check an alarm in the security room and somehow got locked in.”
