“Not the same. Variations on a theme. His flowers are different.” I watched her face as she explored, waiting.

“Why flowers?”

“Mom loved to garden. She always had pots of growing things on every windowsill. The flowers are for her.” The memory didn’t hit as hard as it used to when I’d tried not to think about them. Eva encouraged me to tell her stories so she could get to know them too, and I was glad for the excuse to remember the good times.

Her finger moved up farther to the stylized wings. “And these?”

“My position. Right wing.” I threw my arm across her middle, caressing the warm skin under the oversized shirt she was wearing.

She smiled at the roman numerals for fourteen, stroking the stark lines on my shoulder blade. “Your jersey number.”

Her hand stilled on the fresh tattoo along my ribs—the one I’d gotten when she’d been out of town for a competition. “Gavin?”

“Yeah, it’s for you.” The tiara was simple and followed the curves of the other tattoos on my side.

“I thought we weren’t hiding things anymore?” Her gaze locked on mine, suspiciously shiny.

“I wanted to surprise you. Not the same.”

“You’re really taking that perfect boyfriend title to heart.” Her cheeks puffed out as she exhaled. “In the interest of not hiding things, I had a job interview today.”

I stroked her side, noting the goosebumps rising where I touched. “Finally decided to end my misery and become a chef?”

She poked my back. “No, ass, at a cheer training facility in Dallas. They heard about the work I did with Delacourt and want to hire me in the same capacity.”

“Is this job going to make you happy?”

“Yeah, I think it will. I’d be working part time, mostly remote, until I graduate.”

I turned my head to kiss her hip. “I guess it’s a good thing you’ll be moving to Dallas after graduation then.”

“I will?” The teasing in her voice turned into a sharp intake when I yanked the shirt over her head.

“I’ll be training with the team, so I won’t have a lot of time for cooking or cleaning. I could use someone…”

She threw an elbow, but I caught her arm and dragged her underneath me.

“Dallas is a good fit. I like Archer and their commitment to their players, but my number one priority is you. Which means you’ll just have to come with me. Carter sent over some apartments for us to look at?—”

Eva didn’t let me finish. She pulled my head down for a scorching kiss.

“I’m glad you have a plan because you’re not going without me. I can’t help pay for it, not for a little while at least, but?—”

I cut her off like she’d done with me. “I don’t need your money. I have enough saved to cover until the season starts.”

She frowned. “I hate feeling like I’m not contributing.”

“I love you, and whatever our life looks like in Dallas, I’ll love that too. You don’t have to contribute, you only have to love me back. Trust me to take care of us.”

Eva met my eyes, fire buried under the ice. “Done. Loving you is the easy part.”

“Good girl,” I murmured, skimming her jawline with my thumb. “Now spread your legs, Princess.”
