"Mr Thorn," I tried again, but he hissed at me to be quiet. I gulped, fisting my palms. I didn’t want to get into an argument with him that I knew I could never win.

"Be a good girl, Miss Hernandez," he said in a low voice, sending chills up my spine. Every time he talked to me like that, butterflies attacked my stomach. It was such a sexy sound. "Do as you're told."

I bit my lower lip, swallowing the lump in my throat. I was a perfectionist. I always did my best. My brain couldn’t comprehend how I could forget to check the restroom. I was so nervous about the situation that I messed everything up.

A heavy feeling settled in my chest, bringing up memories from my childhood. My mother never missed a chance to remind me of every mistake and wrongdoing.

With my head hung low, I walked out of the office, gently closing the door behind me. I sat behind my desk, burying my head in my hands and pushing back the tears that welled in my eyes. I wasn’t upset because of Mr Thorn and his words; I was angry at myself.

For eight years, I was perfect in every way. Lena was always satisfied with my job, and I was happy to be her assistant. Yet, since I started to work for the big boss, everything had been upside down. I couldn’t concentrate when I was around him.

So, with an exasperated sigh, I started to think about how I could get back to my previous position. Every woman in the building dreamed of working directly for him. They didn't have any idea how hard it was to live up to his expectations. And even when I craved his appreciation and praise as well, deep down, I knew it wasn’t possible. I was too charmed by him.

Girl talk

Electra

Islowlysippedmywine while peering at my phone for at least the fiftieth time in the last ten minutes. Zoe was running around my apartment, admiring my new collection of photo frames. They were still empty, but I was planning to put the most memorable pictures there, along with images of architectural gems I found during my vacation in Thailand.

I bit my tongue so I didn’t scold her for turning my neat, beautiful place upside down. I liked my belongings in order, and she was ruining it with her every move.

"This one is made for us!" she squealed, showing me the light red frame with a heart at the bottom-right corner.

"That is for my graduation photo with my dad," I replied, and she rolled her eyes, returning to find another one for the picture of us. While she was preoccupied with ogling every single piece, I took my phone again and read the texts from my boss. A weird flutter in my stomach appeared every time I imagined his hard stare.

Basically, there was nothing interesting in the messages he sent me. He only wanted me to clear his schedule for the next two days. I already had a headache from it. His calendar was full until 2025. There was no way in hell I would be able to do it without arguments and stupid comments. Some people waited months to meet him, and I would be the one to bring the bad news; that they wouldn’t get an appointment with him for another long period of time.

"You’re unusually quiet," Zoe pointed out, sitting next to me. She took the phone from my hand, placing it far away from my reach.

"He wants me to cancel his meetings for two days," I muttered, leaning into my seat. "Those people will murder me through the phone."

"Is it really that bad?" She poured us another round, finishing the bottle.

"You have no idea," I sighed, gulping down the red liquid that burned my throat. Just as I was about to ask her for another glass, my phone beeped again, and I snapped my head in its direction. However, Zoe was closer to it, and she grabbed it, raising an eyebrow at my boss’s reply.

"You said that he is a total jerk," she said, giving me the cell phone. "This seems kind of nice to me."

I frowned, yanking the phone from her grasp. I quickly scanned the text, not believing my own eyes.

"It wasn’t planned, Miss Hernandez. I know it’s unpleasant, but I’m sure you’ll manage."

I blinked a few times, checking if it was sent from his number. It was, yet the content surely didn’t sound like Mr Thorn’s words.

"He didn’t write it," I stated, putting the phone to the side. Zoe was watching me with an amused expression, shrugging when I gave her a stern look.

"Maybe he’s drunk," she mused, placing a pile of photos on the table. I wasn’t interested in talking about my boss. My mind was overloaded with images of him. I needed a break, and I found myself thinking about what distractions might help.

"Do you have plans for Saturday?" I asked, ignoring another incoming text.

"Are we going out again?" She flashed me a perfect smile, biting her lower lip. "Maybe Pete will be there, too."

"Oh, yeah. That's what I need," I deadpanned, and she burst into laughter. I told her about what happened during my little adventure, and at the beginning, she was angry and considered the whole thing an assault. But when I explained to her that I agreed with everything and that I actually enjoyed it a lot, she teased me about it every single day.

"Why not?" She picked a few photos out to put in the frames. "I’m sure he would be able to fuck your boss out of your head."

"C’mon!" I whined, tilting my head back. Not only was she making fun of me, but I was embarrassed and desperate at the same time. But I couldn’t help myself. Sebastian Thorn owned my every thought, and it was making me anxious.
