Page 54 of Craving The Chase

I keep my eyes focused on the building’s entrance. It’s very rare Chase doesn’t leave the office for lunch. I want to see where he goes today. We need to leave this place. Me and Chase need to find our own spot. I would prefer a cabin somewhere off grid where it's just us. No distractions. No interruptions. I’m neverbored or restless in his presence; he holds my attention one hundred percent of the time, and I hate to have to share him with the outside world.

Eventually, Chase comes out of the building on his own. I note how he is carrying himself differently today, he looks more determined. Focused. His steps are solid, not dragging. I see him grab his phone out of his pocket, and he appears to be texting. Who the hell is he texting?

A text alert on my phone answers my question.

C:

Enjoying the view?

I look back up at him as he continues to walk away, giving no hint that he knows where I am. But he does. He’s goading me.

N:

Be better if you turned around.

I look back up again just in time to see him turn in my direction, a huge grin on his face. However, that face turns to a frown when he looks just out of my line of vision. I look in my wing mirror and hear his name being called by the crazy fucker walking towards him past my car. Fucking Wade.

Screw this.

Wade reaches Chase, and I get out of the car. Lighting my cigarette as I approach them, Chase looks over at me, shaking his head as if that’ll stop me. I’m not going to make a scene here, though. As with all good murderers, to get away with it, you have to plan and know what you’re doing. Sure, Bobby was a last-minute decision, but I knew what I was doing and had the right place to take him.

Taking a long drag of my nicotine stick, I walk up next to Wade and Chase, who are in a heated discussion.

“You’re becoming quite a stalker fuckhead,” I state to Wade, who spins on his feet to face me, thunder glaring through those ugly eyes.

“Fuck off, I don’t stalk him,” Wade says.

“You do. You’ve repeatedly turned up at his house and his workplace uninvited. Not to mention that I saw you here the other day waiting outside his office before running off,” I say as I blow smoke into his face, grinning at his distaste.

“You’ve been watching me?” Chase asks Wade. My man is so naive sometimes.

“No! I was waiting for you, but decided to leave.” Wade then pins his glare at me. “And how the hell would you know I was here?” he asks, thinking this is his mic drop moment, that I’ve been watching Chase too.

“Because Iwasstalking him,” I say smugly as Wade narrows his gaze at me and Chase shakes his head in a way that shows he has given up trying to control me.

“Are you listening to this, Chase? How can you want to be with this idiot who admits to stalking you?”

“Because he enjoys it,” I say with a single shrug. Chase blushes, not denying what I said.

Wade’s mouth is open so wide that insects could make a home in it. He’s looking at Chase in total shock. I’m not sure how Chase was with Wade, but from trying to read between the lines, I would say passive and dutiful. I doubt he ever showed this fire and devotion for someone else. Internally, I preen like a peacock knowing that I’ve had such a positive affect on him.

“Catch up is over, fuckhead. Go find a new toy,” I say to Wade as I move in behind Chase, lowering my head onto his shoulder, showing Wade exactly who Chase belongs to.

“I’ll end you, you fucking asshole. You ruined my face and my relationship,” Wade starts, but Chase uses that opening to speak, keeping his body cocooned in my arms.

“No, Wade. You ruined our relationship, and these threats are making you look crazy. You’re a successful lawyer with your own firm. You can find someone else who fits what you’re looking for, because it isn’t me,” Chase says.

“You won’t be looking so smug for much longer, Noah. I’ll destroy you,” Wade warns before spinning around and walking as fast as he can away from us.

“Thanks for keeping calm.” Chase turns in my arms and pecks me on the mouth.

I don’t respond, as I’m far from calm.

“You go enjoy your lunch, baby, I’ll come see you tonight.”

“Actually, I was hoping I could come over to your place. If that's okay?” he asks sheepishly, like I would ever deny him.

“That's more than okay with me, baby,” I say, ecstatic that he wants to be in my space again.
