It’s not Viktor Volkov, the head of the Wolves, because he speaks perfect English, but it’s someone in his entourage.

I wait patiently for the man to give me more information. It’s an art to control dread when it’s already spreading within my entire body. My head twitches, and I hold Livie closer to me. As if she’s the one protecting me.

“What a pretty wife. Very pretty.”

It takes all of me to not threaten him. To not lose control completely. I still need more info.

“Too bad you will never see her again.”

I take a deep breath, my nostrils flaring, and calmly ask, “What do you want?”

Because let’s face it. I will give them anything to get Kayla back.

“We don’t want anything.”

He chuckles, having the time of his life. “We only teach you lesson. Bad things happen when you steal business from the Wolves. Now your wife works for us. Beautiful body. Good money. We keep her alive until she pays back all the money we lost from you trying to take over us.”

I hear him speaking away from the phone, clearly to someone else. “Say thank you to your husband, sweetheart. All this is because of him.”

She doesn’t, of course. All I hear is a dull sound and a whimper from her. Something that sounds like pain and despair. Something that tears down my sanity, that liquifies and blackens my blood.

“Goodbye.”

He hangs up on me, and I stand still for a minute, looking at my phone, my mind completely empty but for the delicious rage poisoning my heart.

Well.

It’s time for a massacre.

I glance at the people around the table. I’m back in my Stoneview Mansion because I needed space. When you prepare for war, you need room to think, and I was suffocating in Kayla’s house. Mainly because it smells so much like her. Because everything there is what forged her, who she is. I need away from everything that weakens me if I want to think straight.

Only the people I know I can use to find the Wolves are around this table. Sam, of course. But also Rose and Lik because my sister spent two years with the Wolves when she was kidnapped by them. There was nothing I could do when it happened to her. I was stuck in prison. But Sam and Lik got her back in the end, and that means I can get Kay back too. The three of them have priceless information about the organization.

Elliot, Ethan, and Jade are here too, because I need people who will be almost as desperate as me to get her back. Which brings me to Caden, her brother. He’s standing still, his gaze lost in the void as his fiancée cries silently into his arms. I don’t think he realizes how hopelessly she’s holding on to him. He looks like he’s envisioning slaughtering the men who took his own sister. Good thing they’re the same who killed Emma.

Xi stands next to them, strong arms crossed over his chest. He tried to console Billie, but Caden pulled out a knife. He and Lik don’t look so well. I assume that tends to happen when you lose your stepsister so suddenly.

Two of Emma’s trusted men are here. Logan and Nino. The former is here to be supportive of Emma’s relatives, and the second deals arms. Meaning, he’s been in some circles the Wolves have frequented.

I stand at the head of the table, taking a breath before I talk. Sam observes me like I’m a ticking time bomb. He’s absolutely and undoubtedly one hundred percent right.

If I don’t find Kayla soon, blood will spill. Scratch that. It will flood the fucking streets.

“Listen to me. I am not looking for an all-out war, some business deals, or to shoot every single Wolf you see on sight. I need everyone to act smart. We are not looking around blindly. We want something that will link us to whoever was in that parking lot. A witness, a video. I want the car that took her. I want people who could draw me their exact faces and point them out in the crowd of a Taylor Swift concert, am I clear? Because this is the only lead we have right now. The Wolves are masters at hiding, and we won’t get to them any other way. Find the people who took Kayla. They will lead us to where they’re keeping her.”

I turn to Logan. “Where is your little computer genius? I want her to hack the CCTV from that shop and the ATM right in front of it. Cops are refusing to help. Martinez kindly told us there are none, when I know for a fact both have cameras.”

Logan shakes his head. “Tamar had to travel back to Morocco with her mom. Death in her family.”

“I’ll find someone else. In the meantime, get the laptop from my office. We’ll get you on the dark web. I want you to scan every single…” Oh, this is going to hurt coming out. I let out a breath. “Every single sex trafficking website.”

I turn to Ethan, Elliot, and Jade. “You were staying with a Wolf for a while, weren’t you?”

Jade’s eyes dart to the brothers before coming back to mine as she nods slowly. “Stanislav.”

“Go to his house,” I tell her boyfriends. “Tell me if he’s there. That’s it. Do not go in yet.”

“He lives eight hours away.”
