“Tommy and me.”

I don’t know what comes over me, but I slide my arm through Kevin’s and look at him desperately.

“Fancy it?”

The woman beside him rolls her eyes and tries to hide a smile just as Tommy joins us. He gazes at Kevin before clocking my arm on his and frowns.

Kevin stares back at him, his jaw clenched.

Please. Come with me away from this woman.

I’m sure he’s about to shake my arm off when he drains his beer and turns toward the other woman.

“Excuse us.”

My heart soars when he drapes his arm around me, nodding at my mom, who stares at us with confusion.

“Where are we going?” Kevin drawls, his gaze locked with Tommy’s.

It’s like two lions squaring up to one another, and I swallow down my apprehension.

I’m more concerned with the way Kevin’s arm feels around me.

Fucking sublime.

And he’s coming out with us. I don’t care why; I just know heis.

I can’t help but send a sweet smile to the classy bitch staring after us in disbelief, wrinkling her nose up.

Well, fuck you.

We make our way to the exit, and without thinking, I mumble thank you to Kevin.

He nods stiffly and keeps his eyes on Tommy.

“You seemed like you were asking for my help, Shelby,” he says softly, pulling me slightly closer to him. “You know I’ll always give you that.”

I look up at him as we walk outside and shiver at the temperature change. It’s much cooler now, and even the rum isn’t keeping me warm.

Kevin rubs my bare arm and frowns.

“Why didn’t you wear a jacket?”

“Sorry,Daddy.”

Kevin rolls his eyes and tuts.

“I should spank your ass for rolling your eyes at me like that.”

“If only,” I quip as he stares down at me.

“You’d like that, huh?”

My heart skips a beat, and I move my hand to touch his, stopping halfway.

Don’t touch him.

I don’t want him to back away.
