Page 47 of Destined for Him

I’m not ready to see Kevin just yet.

Or ever again.

Ivy throws open the door and rushes in, leaving me trailing behind her. Griffin pulls her into his arms, kissing her forehead before grinning at me.

“Hey, Shelby! Ah, the old gang is here; this is great!”

Ivy dashes past Griffin to Kevin, who has now risen to his feet, staring at me with a strange expression.

I try not to stare back, but he makes me feelweak.

It doesn’t help that he’s casually dressed in jeans and a shirt, showing off his body to the world. His hair is slicked back, and my stomach flips when he smiles at Ivy.

His scent permeates the air, hints of spice and…fuck, I don’t know, paradise?

I can’t believe I’ve slept with him.

“Hey, Griffin,” I say, kissing his cheek. “How are you? Looking forward to being a daddy again?”

My voice soundsnothinglike I feel, and I refuse to look at Kevin just in case I turn to jelly or something equally embarrassing.

Griffin grins, his eyes lighting up.

“Oh, man. You have no idea how excited I am.”

Again, a deep pang echoes in my chest, and I gulp down the air like I’m running out.

“Kevin’s here,” Griffin says, a mischievous smile on his face. He tilts his head to Kevin, who nods at me.

“Shelby.”

“Kevin.” I refuse to meet his eyes, but I don’t want Ivy to suspect a thing, so I add, “looking good, as always.”

The words stick in my throat, but I have to keep up appearances if I don’t want Ivy’s unwanted attention on her dad and me.

“You too.”

Ivy’s eyes flicker to her dad with surprise, and I frown at him, inwardly scolding him. Heneverreturns my compliments—he always shoots me down or laughs at me. This isn’tnormal.

“Whoa, a compliment. Maybe he’s thawing after all,” Griffin says, his brows raised. “Anyone want a beer?” His eyes rest on Ivy before softening. “Or a hot chocolate? Milkshake?”

Ivy’s eyes light up.

“Milkshake!”

Griffin glances at me, and I nod, wondering if I could ask for a pint of whiskey and wake up in a weeks time.

Ivy claps her hands together and leads the way to the sofa, lifting her legs, so she takes up the whole thing. Kevin sits on the sofa opposite, and it’s clear I’m supposed to sit next to him.

I look around desperately, but there’s no other option.

Why does life do this to me?

I wanted to get away from Kevin, not spend days with him.

Fuck.

I perch on the edge of the sofa, and Ivy gazes at me with a lazy smile.
