The following day the house was silent; the only sound was the birds chirping outside Ellie’s window. I was so warm and comfortable that I almost fell back to sleep when a loud thud made both me and Ellie jump.

“What the fuck was that?!” Ellie hissed, her bleary eyes wide as she searched the room.

“I don’t know.” I frowned, reaching for my phone. “It’s eleven AM.”

Another thud. This time we both snapped our heads in the direction of the window.

Ellie slid out of bed, making her way to the windows before scowling.

“It’s my brother and his mates,” she grumbled, climbing back into bed. “Playing basketball.”

“I’m surprised they’re up,” I mused, lifting to get a look at the boys. A ball was being tossed around, but they weren’t playing basketball from the looks of it. Instead, they were taking turns bouncing it off the side of the house.

“They aren’t human. The laws of physics don’t apply to them.”

“Oh, Raff has spilt water down his top.” I chuckled as Ellie leapt over the bed to join me at the window.

Raff cursed at Logan, spinning the ball on his finger effortlessly, clearly teasing him about the spillage.

“Take it off,” Ellie mumbled, dreamily resting her head in her hand. “Just take italloff.”

“Has he got a girlfriend?” I asked, and she laughed, a high-pitched sound that attracted the boys’ attention below.

Raff grinned, and I couldn’t help but notice Logan’s scowl when Raff took his top off, flexing his muscles for Ellie and me.

“Holy fucking Christ,” Ellie groaned, and I averted my eyes, knowing if Carlisle checked out some girl in her bra, I would be pissed. So, my gaze landed on Logan, who was glaring at Raff, his gaze moving to his sister, who ignored him. The muscles in his jaw clenched, and he shook his head from side to side slowly, almost as though he was warning Ellie.

But Raff was checking Ellie out too, his eyes dancing with a challenge as he pointed at her, a finger motioning for her to strip too.

Logan shoved Raff in the chest before Raff laughed it off, holding his palms up in the way of surrender.

“They have girlfriends,” Ellie sighed before moving reluctantly away from the window. “Not that it stops any of them. They do who and what they like.”

“Even your brother?” I asked, still watching Logan.

He was lighting a cigarette, sitting on a stack of wooden boxes as the other guys fooled around with the ball. As he inhaled, he lifted his gaze to mine, a hint of a smile on his lips before he blew the smoke out, allowing me to see it wasn’t a smile but a smirk.

Is Logan smirking at me?

“I don’t know what he does. But I know he hasn’t got any morals. He slept with his girlfriend’s sister once.”

Urgh.

“Infidelity is the worst.” I swallowed, trying to break the staring competition I seemed to be in with Logan. My cheeks burned as he pressed the cigarette to his lips with his forefinger and thumb, his eyes squinting.

I stepped back to find Ellie dragging clothes out of her wardrobe.

“Yep, yet you stay with someone like that,” she said softly, and I shrugged my shoulders.

“We’re young. We met young….”

“So?”

“So I understand,” I said. “But not anymore. I won’t forgive anymore.”

Ellie’s blue eyes softened, and she nodded.

“They said everyone deserves a second chance,” I said, glancing around for my bag.
