After fully packing, I run downstairs, scanning the house to make sure I’m not spotted. I can see out the large windows of the living room that the boat and dock are still ablaze, and everyone is doing what they can to extinguish the fire.
Now is my chance.
I pause and consider leaving him a note. But what would I say? What would make him less angry? Less hurt? Less vengeful? The reality is I’m not sure how he’ll feel about me leaving. Maybe he’ll be grateful that I took the decision out of his hands. This way the Morellis and the Constantines have no one to blame. They can hunt me down and not involve Nick Hudson anymore. He can go back to living his extraordinary life.
