Zag’s dad nodded at me. “Hi. I’m Demon, or you can call me Dustin.” Up close, you could really see the resemblance between the two. Demon was just an older version of Zag.

I raised my hand and waved lamely. He had to know what my name was. I would probably say t ten times before I got it.

“Did Meg start to cook already?” Zag asked.

Demon’s eyes dropped to Zag’s hand in mine. “Uh, not yet. She was waiting for Tess. She didn’t want to take over her kitchen without at least meeting her first.”

Zag tugged on my hand, but I didn’t budge.

“Is everything okay?” Demon asked.

Zag glanced at me. “Uh, we are just a little surprised that you guys are here.”

“You know how your aunt Meg is. Once she gets an idea in her head, there is no way of stopping her.” A bark sounded from the kitchen. “She also brought Buster Pennington.”

“She got the dog?”

His dad nodded. “King didn’t stand a chance at telling her no. She laid it on thick about the dog choosing her.”

Zag was right that no one seemed to say no to Meg.

“I saw her when she purposely pulled up the website,” Zag laughed.

Demon held up his hands. “Again, you don’t argue or say no to Meg. You just go along with it.”

“Zag!”

Demon stepped back and motioned down the hallway.

“We better get a move on.”

Zag didn’t give me a choice. He pulled on my hand, and I followed him closely down the hallway.

Here we went, straight into the lion’s den.

Or was it Meg’s den?
