Chapter17

I made it to The Busy Bean in twenty-five minutes after breaking every traffic law imaginable. I didn't have a driver. I didn't trust anyone to get me to Daisy faster than myself.

When I reached the street, I illegally parked next to the car of the guy I had keeping watch on her. The window was busted open, and his head was back against the headrest like he was sleeping.

Motherfucker. I leaned in the window to get a better look. His chest was still rising and falling, so he was alive, but there was a bullet hole in his thigh and a bump on his head. Someone had knocked him unconscious and left him here.

Sergei was right behind me. He'd take care of this. Pulling out my piece, I ran across the street and into The Busy Bean.

There was a longer line of customers than I'd ever seen before, and Daisy was behind the counter.

When I first saw her, I breathed a sigh of relief, but then I realized something wasn't right. She didn't look up at me. She was taking the customers’ orders robotically, not looking away from the register at all.

Her face was even paler than usual, as though she'd seen a ghost. As she handed back a credit card, her hand was trembling.

This was ending now. "Everybody out," I ordered. I was used to giving orders, so one guy left automatically, while everyone else seemed affronted at the mere suggestion. But then when they saw me and the gun held loosely at my side, they all got the fuck out pretty fast without me having to say anything else.

Right after the last one left, Sergei entered along with Vik and Carter, two more of my better men.

He was smart enough to bring the heavy hitters on this one.

And now all of us turned our attention to Daisy. "Borya was here. What did he want?"

She was still staring at the register, leaning heavily on the counter as though standing was too difficult. "Umm... He wanted a smoothie. But I talked him into a frozen coffee. I don't do well under pressure."

Sergei and I exchanged a glance but didn't say anything. What the fuck was she talking about? "Did he hurt you?"

She did look up at that. "I... Kind of? I think he's more worried about me hurting you. Which is kind of sweet, I guess. I think he's looking out for you."

"Close up. You're coming with us."

"I can't come with you. I have to work. And I have class later today."

"You close up or you're coming with us and leaving the shop unattended. But the end result is the same."

Finally, she got some color back in her face, her anger bringing her back to life. "No. You've barged into my life and dictated enough. You're not taking me out of my school. You're not taking me away from my job. Your brother warned me not to hurt you and I don't plan to hurt you. I'm not planning on hurting you, so I should be fine."

So, my little angel was growing a backbone. I'd be proud if it weren't so fucking frustrating. "There are developments you don't know about."

"Developments that have to do with you. So, if you leave me in my world, I should be safer."

Growling, I stomped around the counter. "You don’t want to talk? Fine. But we're going to talk later." I scanned around for what I could use, and my eyes fell on her apron.

"Great, so I'll call you when I get home?"

I didn't answer, planting a hand on her back and shoving her forward into the counter.

The guys keeping guard smartly averted their eyes, giving us some measure of privacy as I pressed my hips against hers. "You want to test me right now, Angel? You will fail this test."

Screeching in anger, she pushed back against me with all her strength, but it wasn't enough to budge me. Well, it did move my cock, but I don't think she appreciated that.

I set my gun on the counter. Daisy might be fighting me, but I didn't think she'd actually shoot me. Plus, I had my guards standing a few feet away.

That freed up my hands to grab a knife laying out. It was dull as fuck but would get the job done.

Daisy's breath caught in her throat. "What are you doing with that?"

And my cock got even harder. "Have a thing for knife play, baby girl? I'll have to remember that for later." With a quick jerk, I cut off the ties of her apron. Before she even realized what happened, I used the now loose strings to tie her hands behind her back.

Then she started to struggle in earnest. "No! You're not doing this, you crazy person!" When she realized there was no way she was going to get out of my grasp, and her struggles were probably only turning me on more, she turned her attention to my men at the door. "Are you just going to let him do this?"

They smartly kept their mouths shut.

"I'm going to be the most annoying hostage ever! I'm going to annoy you to your wits’ end! I'm going to make you regret you've ever been born! I'm going to-" I shoved a washcloth in her mouth and held it in with my hand over her face, leaving her ample room to breathe through her nose. "Your threats of annoying us to death are cute. Usually, we're threatened with dismemberment and disfigurement. You're downright quaint."

Muffled screams came from beneath my hand. I could only chuckle, imaging what she was trying to say. "Shush now, or I'll have to find something more creative to stuff in your mouth. That one will go decidedly deeper."

More screaming, this time accompanied with angry eyes.

Sergei, ever the problem solver, came forward. Apparently, he found a roll of plastic bags behind the counter and handed them over so I could use them to secure Daisy's gag.

Now her anger was directed at all of us. "Don't give me that look, beautiful. You know I only get turned on when you're upset."

More muffled curses as I threw her over my shoulder. Just then, some girl came in through the back. "What the hell is going on?"

She stopped talking and drew back when I picked my gun up from the counter. I didn't point it at her, just held it limply at my side. I wasn't going to shoot at anyone while holding onto my angel unless absolutely necessary.

I wasn't crazy, no matter what she thought.

"See? We're not even going to have to leave the place unattended."

From the way Daisy struggled, she was unappeased.

"As soon as this is taken care of, I want you at home base," I told Sergei before carrying Daisy out.

If she thought the pedestrians on the street would help her, she sorely underestimated my influence in this city.

I was Miami. I owned the police. I owned the politicians. I owned the ports. I owned the businesses.

And if I wanted to own her, I'd own her too.
