He set her down in what she supposed was the living room. “Do you like it?”
She stared at the polished floors and suddenly saw Harrison kneeling on a carpet, putting together a castle made of connecting blocks. A little girl in fairy wings and a tiara hung off his back, blowing raspberries into his cheek as a little boy anxiously waited to drive his truck over the drawbridge of the castle.
Laughter filled the air as they softly encouraged each other and worked together to build something beautiful. She could smell something cooking from the kitchen and hear music playing.
“Do you like it?” he asked again and the vision faded.
Smiling, she shook her head in awe and met his stare. “No, Harrison, I love it.”
She could see their future in that home, happy and full of love. Despite his fears, Harrison was going to be an incredible father, nothing like his own.
She laced her fingers with his. “You’re a good husband.”
Her words were simple, but his eyes registered the praise and he kissed her. Pulling away slowly, he whispered, “Let me show you the rest.”
“I can’t wait.”
Keeping hold of his hand, she followed him toward the unknown, toward their future, trusting him to never let go.
