“Couldn’t take that chance.”

“What did you do?” She shouldered her way up, resting her elbow on the lip of the tub to stare at him. His eyes scurried away into the dark. Staring at nothing.

“First, I figured out what I did wrong. Second, I went about proving that I was the best lover in the town. I slept with girls, and sometimes women, who would have me. I figured if she ever told anyone, no one would believe her. They would chalk it up to jealousy.”

“Why would they think she was jealous? Wasn’t she your girlfriend?”

“Not after my first time. I dumped her before I even had my pants up. Insulting her in horrible, vile ways and stalking out, ignoring her tears and pleas.”

“And you never came back? Never tried to make amends.”

His head rolled over to hers. Tangling their eyes together. “I have done things you couldn’t imagine, from selling drugs to murder. Things I can’t speak about and most I don’t think about. But the look on her face. My actions. I have never forgiven myself.” He cupped her face. Closing her mouth with that damn thumb, tipping her chin up again. “But for you, I will apologize. I will make it right.”

The water lapped between them, waving his vow like a white flag until she finally replied, “Yes, you will.”

And he did. The hot water of the jacuzzi helped relieve much of the soreness. Ven held her in his arms like she was porcelain until she head-butted him to make him stop. When he decided she rested enough, he spread her legs and made slow love to her again, using his textbook list. Same as before. Mouth, breasts, v-jay…check, check, and check. Get to it, dude. But she didn’t complain. Didn’t dare. She should. But… Oh shit. He hooked his finger behind her clit from the inside. From the FUCKING INSIDE. What the fuck? She groaned again. Not gonna hate on the checklist again. She rotated her hips in time to his rhythm. Fucking his face and hoping he didn’t drown as she came and came. Flooding him.

His hands tilted her pelvis up, and he slid his way home. A slow inch at a time. Did he really believe this torture was easier on her than his hot and heavy had been? She ground her hips up. Trying to slam against him. But he shook his head and buried his face in the pillow beside hers. “You won’t get me again, witch. I’m taking my time. I will make slow, sweet love to you if it kills me.”

“It will kill us both, demi.”

In the end, he couldn’t maintain his slow pace. Not when she came, despite the tortured tortoise pace. Her walls clenching and grabbing, resisting his withdrawal until he thrust in, giving her gaping pussy what it was begging for. Him. All of him.

Chapter 9

“Hey, eyes on me,” Rand interrupted his screen view of Sasha in the penthouse. No problem. He’d been treated to one of her strip teases before. When she’d called and told him to look at the camera. And then slowly peeled her clothes off. Doing a dance that would make any strip dancer depressed enough to quit. He had raced to the elevator and cursed the cabin for not being faster. Taking off his jacket and tie before he hit the top floor. Damn her. He closed the remote in his desk drawer and tried not to think of what he was missing. Lifting his hand to ask Rand for one more minute. He speed-texted for her to pause because he wasn’t watching.

#Work.

#Your loss. She texted back.

He would strangle her when he returned if she had even a shoe off. Or even better, give her the spanking he’d promised since day one. And that she certainly deserved from day one.

Rand tapped his finger on the desk. “I don’t get it. Why her?” Rand interrupted his texting. He sent her another warning because the first one would not stop her once she got a crazy idea in her head. They’d spent almost every waking minute together since their first night. He’d taken crash course Sasha and still failed to understand how her mind worked. She was a five-hundred thousand-piece puzzle, and someone had removed the picture. Leaving just the cardboard cut-outs.

Rand snapped his fingers again. “C’mon, man, snap out of it. It’s not like you to be so unfocused.”

“Yeah, well, I never met anybody like her before. She’s smart and funny. Sexy and shy. But it’s not the contradictions that hold me. She is just who she is.”

“Really?”

Ven pointed to the dark video screens. “Every day, we live and work surrounded by illusion. Nothing in Vegas is what it seems. A woman walking down the street could either be a mom or a streetwalker. Sometimes both. You don’t know. But with her, I know. And it frees me to be who I am. I can tell her anything, and she listens. Accepts. I’ve told her secrets my brothers don’t know. And she didn’t walk away.”

“Did you tell her why you’re so eager to get away this weekend? That you want her gone before Baranov hits town.?”

“She doesn’t know about Baranov or what my brother is planning.”

Rands’s dark eyes bored into his, ramming him like a bull goring a matador. He wiggled on its hook, but he was caught. She was being genuine while he was hiding the truth. What kind of relationship could they have if it was based on lies? No. Not lies. Sasha might not know the situation, but she knew the man. He gave her the truth of who he was. As for a relationship, he wrapped a hand around his neck. Trying to loosen the noose. He’d find a way to make it work because, like everything else in his life. He had no choice.

“You sure you guys are going to be alright up here? It’s cold as fuck in these mountains. Hate California. Desert on one end, tundra on the other,” Rand complained, showing his hands in his pockets.

Ven shook his head and laughed. “Rand had the same reaction when I took you home to Ardestan.”

“Is your home like this?” Sasha slid her hand into his, and he squeezed her thin fingers, warming them in his palms.

“Yes. But not all year. This part of northern California is a mountainy region, and the area stays pretty cool for most of the year. That’s what I like about this place. It reminds me of home.” She shivered. What was he doing? His protective instincts railed at him. “You go inside and warm up. I had the caretaker come up and start the heat. So, it should be nice and toasty inside. I’ll grab our bags before Rand takes off. Okay?” He gave her a quick kiss on the lips. Giving her a quick swat on the butt and a promise. “I’ll be inside and get you warmed up properly.”
