Hope cried out, and before he got to her, she raised her arm and threw her knife. He turned to see a man with a gun behind him fall with the knife in his throat.

Fuck, she just saved him. She cried out and headed for him. He had just enough time to put his gun in the back of his belt before she jumped into his arms.

She couldn’t believe she was actually in Blake’s arms. The tears fell from her eyes as she apologized over and over again.

“Let’s get you back to the car, pet.”

She nodded and then saw Benny off to the side with his arms up.

“Wait.” She tried to push out of Blake’s arms, which had him cursing. “Don’t hurt him.”

“Who?” Blake asked.

“The man right there. He protected us and showed us how to escape. He was against it and tried to talk his brother into taking us back. Don’t hurt him.”

“Hold up, Phil,” Blake said to one of his guys pointing a gun at the man’s head and headed his way. He let Hope down but kept a grip on her upper arm.

“What’s your name?” Blake asked.

“Benny, sir.”

“My woman said you protected them?”

“Yes, the best way I could.”

“Why’d you take them in the first place?”

“I thought we were giving them a ride, but then Frankie—”

“Frankie?” Blake asked.

“My brother. We were at your house to talk to Alastair, and he made Frankie mad. I tried to talk him out of this, but he never listens to me.”

“Where’s Frankie now?”

Hope looked the way he was pointing and felt awful. His brother was definitely dead.

“I’m sorry, Benny,” Hope said.

“What the fuck are you sorry for, woman?” Blake yelled.

“That was his only family, Blake.”

She didn’t think it softened Blake’s attitude, but at least she shut up for a moment. “Benny, I want you to go to my family home, the Moretti—”

“No,” Blake said. “I’ll find a place for him in our organization.”

Hope studied his expression. “What should he do now?”

“Go home, Benny, and then come to my office in the morning.”

“Yes, sir.”

Blake whistled. “Take Benny home.”

“You got it,” one of the guards said and walked away with Benny.

She looked up at Blake. “Thank you.”

He growled and then moved her along. “We’ve got to get out of here before the cops come.”
