The fact that he took the time to set this all up has my entire body feeling like jelly. He did this for me…Sparks of warmth and happiness spread through my body at the thoughtfulness. He got my favorite candies, made sure I’ll be comfortable, and most importantly, got me out of that suffocating room. Taking in the sweet gesture, tears well in my eyes.

“Well…” The hesitation in Cohutta’s voice is absolutely adorable. I get why he’s so nervous, but it’s cute how much this means to him and how worried he is about my reaction.

“You did all this?” I can’t help the shock that laces my tone. My jaw is practically on the floor from the sight.

“Well, I had a little bit of help from Rush.” He shrugs bashfully. Rush was in on this too? Fuck, I’m a goner.

“This is…I don’t even know what to say.” I can’t even form the words for how I’m feeling. This is overwhelming, incredible, thoughtful, hell I could go on. All of this is simply stunning and so exciting.

“You don’t like it?” He rubs the back of his neck, rocking back and forth with unease.

“No…it’s not that,” I croak out, trying to hold back the emotions threatening to escape. I haven’t really cried since I’ve been back, but this might send me over the edge.

He sighs in defeat. “You think it’s lame.”

“Oh god, no.” I comfortingly grab his hand. “Cohutta, this is incredible. No one has ever done something like this for me. I love it. I just can’t believe you did this all for me.” I step closer to him, looking up at him with a smile.

“Thank god.” He exhales loudly like that’s the best news he’s ever heard.

“You’re happy no one has ever done anything like this for me?” I joke. I know what he meant, but I can’t help myself.

“No, fuck, no. That sounded bad. I’m happy you love it.”

“I’m just messing with you.” I lightly punch his shoulder, laughing at how worked up he is right now.

“You’re seriously the worst sometimes,” he groans.

“You love me.” I press a kiss to his chest.

“That I do.” He leans down to kiss my forehead. We stand in that position for a moment, soaking in each other's presence, until a noise behind us breaks our attention.

“Finally. I’m glad you’re out here. This one has been driving me crazy all day,” Rush jokes. I’m sure he had to put Cohutta at ease just as much as I did. He comes toward us looking like pure sin. He’s wearing tight black jeans and a black shirt, his usual look, but something about the way his hair is messy and stubble lines his jaw has my body getting even hotter.

“I have not,” Cohutta protests.

“What if she hates it? What if she thinks it’s stupid? That’s all you’ve been going on about,” Rush mocks, but Cohutta is not having it. He lunges toward Rush, playfully punching him directly in the stomach. “Fuck, no need to go that hard. I’m just joking with you.” Rush wheezes like he’s actually hurt and not built of stone.

“Yeah, yeah. Alright, let’s get this set up, then we can snack and talk while we wait for the sun to finish going down so we can start the movie,” Cohutta quips before moving to grab a drink and lay back on the giant pillows. I notice the familiar orange liquid in his cup.

“Is that mango juice?” I squeal.

He smiles up at me. “Sure is.”

“How’d you know?”

“Well, Rush here said it’s the only thing he sees you drink when you’re at work.”

He notices my habits. They pay attention... They notice me.

“You two are the best.”

Walking over to the table, I grab the bowl of popcorn and throw some M&Ms in the bowl along with hot tamales. It’s a combination I’ve loved for as long as I can remember.

“Weird mix there.” Rush moves beside me, pressing against my shoulder and looking down at the bowl in my hands.

“Hey now, don’t knock it until you try it. It’s delicious, and if you don’t like it, there’s more for me.” I grin up at him. He looks better today than he has in the last few. He’s been getting more sleep, but I know he’s working tirelessly to get security updated and figured out to make sure I am safe.

Reaching into the bowl, he grabs a handful of the mixture and throws it into his mouth. I can’t help but watch the way his rugged jaw moves with each bite and how his Adam’s apple moves when he swallows. This man is so fine it hurts to look at him sometimes. Between his looks, his protectiveness, and the way he cares about me, it’s enough to make me explode.
