“No, not at all. I was just thinking about how hard it must be to not have money.” I closed my eyes and lifted my face to the morning sun. “What does the other half live like?”

“I don’t think it’s half, cous, and I certainly never want to know how that feels.” Asher scoffed at the idea of it. “Good thing neither of us will ever have to know, am I right?”

“You’re an idiot. Please never talk like that around the people in town.” I kicked his foot. “We need to go look at the huts. I want to see how things are looking.”

“What? You don’t trust me? I have impeccable taste.” Asher faked chest pain. “I have nowhere to be, tell Jim to take us around to the other side.”

“How have you been getting over there?” I realized I didn’t know. “I know you aren’t walking.”

“I haven’t been there. I have blueprints, that’s all I need.” Asher sat his coffee down. “I don’t love that stuff. I’d rather have a mimosa.”

“Ash, you gotta cut back on the drinking.” I stood to look at the island as we approached, then dug my cell out. “Hey Jim, go around to the other side and dock. I want to look over the huts.”

“Should we drop the crew first, or take them with us?” Jim responded.

“They all look beat up still. Just bring them with us.” I disconnected. “Ash, we need to figure out how to get to the hut side of the island without a boat.”

“Yeah sure, we can look at it.” Ash stood next to me. “This really is a beautiful island. Let’s take the crew for a dive this afternoon.”

“Sure, why not? We need to break in the equipment anyway. Plus, it’ll help us find a good spot to take the brides,” I agreed.

We docked and did a walk-through of the huts. Asher hadn’t exaggerated. He was doing a great job.

“Looks like the huts should be ready by next week,” I smiled. “Ash, when you try, you do great work.”

“Oh, you say such sweet things to me. Will you be my girlfriend?” Asher made fun.

“Shut up. And I’d never be your girlfriend.” I slapped him on the back and walked past him into one of the huts. “This is really nice. Makes me want to stay in here tonight.”

“Why don’t we, then? This one is finished.” Asher stood at the door of the hut. “There’s two more that are finished, so the crew could stay there.”

“We should stay at least one night before we have guests, just to get the kinks out.” I walked back out onto the beach. “Let’s take a look at another way across the island.”

We spent a good twenty minutes looking around, not really seeing a good way. It was thick with seagrape bushes and trees.

“You need to hire someone to figure this out. My brain is tired thinking about it.” Asher turned away from the area. “Come on, let’s go diving.”

“You know, I agree with you this time. I need to hire someone for this, but who?” I asked.

“What about that burly guy that’s always following my brother’s wife around?” Asher snapped his fingers. “What’s his name….Ah, it’s Bond.”

“You know, that’s not a bad idea. He’s ex-military or something scary, like green beret,” I said. “I’ll give him a call later. Maybe we can come up with a fun activity to find this side of the island.”

“That’s on you, but no walking through this mess.” Asher waved for the crew to join us back on the boat. “Time to go diving.”

“The gear is on the boat, so let’s dive from this side to see if there’s anything good.” I climbed into the dingy to go out to the yacht.

There wasn’t much to see diving from this side of the island, so we went back to the yacht.

“Let’s go on the jet skis.” Asher laid out on the deck in his wet suit. “Are the jet skis even there yet?”

Chapter 45

Jade

The Hawthorne jet skis arrived at the marina just before I was to leave with a diving tour. I knew I was going out past Cloud Nine, so I had the delivery crew load them on the back of my boat.

“Alright, is everyone ready to go?” I asked, once they loaded everyone on the boat. “We’ll go over safety instructions once we get to our spot, and I’ll be down there with you.”
