How the heck is the power on? Maybe they had mercy on me? Nah!

The band arrived within a few minutes of our together silence.

“Hey guys, you ready to go?” I stood to greet them. “Joe, I’m giving you the keys to my boat. I have to bring the new boat over tonight, so you’re driving mine.” I tossed him the key. “I’ll still be over to pick you up, though.”

“Victoria, we can stay here longer or go, it’s up to you. You seem like you have something on your mind.” I felt my cell vibrate in my pocket. “Joe needs my help down at the boat. I’ll be right back.”

“It’s fine, I’m ready to go. I’ll walk down with you.” Victoria stood to walk along side of me. “Do you mind taking me around to the other side of the island? I’d like to see the huts my son designed.”

“I’m at your service.” I helped her onto the new boat, then went to help Joe.

Chapter 48

Sawyer

Ididn’t know why I felt so compelled to make her feel better. Maybe it had something to do with being tired of being the partying Hawthorne along with Asher. Recently, when I watch Asher, I’ve felt almost ashamed, thinking I look like that.

“Hey Josh, I need you to handle something for me.” I called Josh while I walked the short distance to see George.

“Before you tell me, I wanted to let you know that the florist was running late but the bouquets have now been delivered,” Josh said. “What’s next?”

“I need you to make one hundred copies and pass them out downtown.” I chuckled at the idea of it. “The flier needs to say, in bold letters, I pushed Jade, but not on purpose.”

“What color would you like this to be?” Josh laughed, but said nothing about the words. “What else do you need to go along with that?”

“The walkway from the marina to the hospital, plaster fliers everywhere so she sees them when she gets back tonight,” I said. “After that, grab the bullhorn from the yacht and meet me in front of that little bakery across from the hospital.”

That completed, I was feeling pretty good. I whistled all the way to see George.

I’m gonna make a great husband... I think!

The boatyard gate was propped open like the last time. It was a good thing I’d called ahead.

“Hey George, thanks for waiting on me. I’ve looked into seaplanes and I know which one I want you to order for me.” I pulled up pictures on my cell. “How quickly can we get this one here?”

George went to work tapping away on his computer, then smiled. “It’s available for delivery in two days, with an additional fee, of course. Is that soon enough?”

“That’s perfect. Can you see if they’ll deliver it to the island?” I asked, tossing my credit card on the counter. “Also, see if someone can fly in with it. That way, they can teach me how to use it.”

“Are you a pilot?” George looked up, a little startled. “I think you have to have a pilot’s license to fly one of these.”

“I’m a pilot, George, and so is my cousin. I’m just not familiar with a seaplane.” I signed for the purchase. “Actually, have them send me a person that can stay for a few days, so I can be sure I have it down.”

I chatted with George for a few minutes, then began my stroll to the bakery. I sent a text to Asher that I’d be hanging in town longer.

“My mother just flew in. I’m going to meet her on the other side by the huts.” He replied.

“Good. She should see some of your work.”

“No way, then she’ll be after me to do more work.”

“It wouldn’t kill you, man.”

“The band is on its way to the island, along with your new boat.”

“Okay, I’m sure they won’t mind relaxing on a private island.”

“Later, dude.”
