“Will he be upset we had sex?”

“No, Tanner will not be upset in the slightest. He will wish he’d been home, but we can make it up to him whenever you want.”

“I’d like that.” Settling into his arms, I pressed a kiss to his chest. “Is he going to make me call him Daddy?”

“That’s a conversation you should have with him, but I’ll tell you it’s not a title I’d thought about calling anyone until suddenly it clicked. Tanner is a fair Daddy, but he’s got a sadistic streak as well. Depending on how hard you push his buttons, and with your consent, he can definitely switch things up.”

“Thinking about Tanner and you having sex with me is going to get me all melty.”

Dane kissed the crown of my head. “We can discuss it tomorrow when he’s home. Tonight, he’ll be grumpy after busting his ass all day.” He found my hand and laced his fingers in mine. “Right now, I want to hold you.”

“Mm.” I nuzzled into him. “I am totally onboard with that plan.”

“Good.”

Comfort, safety, security. A profound sense of peace. Everything I felt in Tanner’s arms the other day in my room engulfed me. I climbed on top of Dane, laying completely on him. “I love you.”

“I love you, Tiana.” He wrapped himself around my body. “I want to talk more, but seeing you after all this time, hearing that you forgive me, and having you here right now is enough. It’s been quite the day, darling.”

“I just wanted to tell you because no one else has ever compared to you or Tanner. I was always just thinking about the two of you.”

“Thank you for sharing. We can get into bigger topics tomorrow.” He kissed my lips once and then shifted me so I was next to him. “I’ll heat up dinner in a little while and we can relax the rest of the night. I’ve got your favorite wine on ice.”

“I haven’t had it since your graduation party,” I admitted sadly. The memory rushed to the surface. He had been so upset, barely getting to talk to me, and then he was whisked away on a private jet that same night. “I think it annoyed your mother that you kept pouring it for me.”

His mother didn’t care that I was drinking an expensive wine, it was more that she didn’t approve of me at all. I was always the wild child, speaking freely, being a smart ass. She frequently clucked her disapproval. I wondered if she mellowed out over the years or if she still had a stick up her behind.

“Shh, sunshine. My mother isn’t here.” Dane read into the heart-of-the-matter. “You can have some with dinner.”

“Sorry, there’s just a lot on my mind.”

“I know. Let’s enjoy the moment. Okay?”

“Mmhm.” Snuggled against his side, I loved the way I fit there. Breathing in the cool crisp scent of his cologne finally helped me relax. Wrapped up in Dane, after all this time, I drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 9

Tanner

Walking into my house, I tried to be as quiet as possible but my footfalls were loud even when I was barefoot. I’d gotten stuck much later than I intended and it was already well past midnight. Peeking into the den, I saw Dane and Tiana snuggling on the couch. She was curled up under a blanket, her head in his lap. It was the cutest thing I’d ever seen, and it filled my heart with warmth. Hopefully the two of them worked out whatever had been bothering them so much.

Dane stirred as I strode through the room. Kissing him, I smiled as he gazed into my eyes. “You both look so comfortable.”

“Tiana fell asleep a few minutes into the movie, I didn’t want to move her.” He shifted slightly. “What time is it?”

“After midnight.” I glanced at Tiana again. “At least she looks peaceful.”

“I am peaceful,” she muttered and her eyes fluttered open. “It’s so nice and quiet here.”

“Come on, buttercup. Let me bring you to bed.” I reached for her and she wrapped herself around me.

“Your arms are so strong.” She rubbed her hands along them gently kneading my biceps. “I bet you could carry me and Dane at the same time.”

“Oh yeah?” I asked her, chuckling. “Maybe we’ll try it sometime.”

“Now?” Tiana asked me hopefully.

“Don’t stroke his ego, sunshine,” Dane grumbled from his spot on the couch. “He doesn’t need it to get any bigger.”
