“Liv, come on, open the door.”
“Go away, Oak,” I yell, my body trembling with anger, heartache and shame.
“Please, Sis. We need to talk.”
“I have nothing to say to you.”
“Olivia, I swear to fucking God, if you don’t let me in—”
Leaping off the bed, I storm over to the door and rip it open. “You’ll what? Beat me into a bloody pulp?”
“Fuck, no.” The blood drains from his face. “I would never. I just wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
“Well, I’m not. So if we’re done here…” I go to close the door, but he sticks his foot in the way.
“We need to talk.”
“No, we really don’t.”
“Liv, please…”
“Oakley, I… I can’t.” I feel sick thinking about the fact that everyone has seen those photos. And a video. God, I had no idea Reese was filming me.
Tears burst from my eyes as I bury my face in my hands. My brother’s arms envelop me as he pulls me into his chest.
“Shh, Liv. I got you. I got you.” He walks me back into my bedroom, kicking the door shut behind him.
“Come on, let’s sit.” He pulls me down on the bed and wraps his arm around my shoulder. “We can talk or just sit here, but I’m not leaving you alone.”
“Everything is such a mess,” I murmur through the tears.
“Want to tell me what happened? It might help to get it off your chest.”
“Or give you more ammunition to go after Reese.” I peek up at him, and his jaw clenches so hard it must hurt.
“Reese is a dead man, Liv.”
“N-no, Oak, please… you can’t.”
“He took photos of you, Liv. He filmed you, for fuck’s sake. That shit doesn’t fly with me. You have to know I can’t just stand by and—”
I grab his bloody hands and lift them up. “I think you already made your point.”
“He deserved it.”
I can’t exactly argue with him, but I don’t want Oak to go after Reese and do something he might one day regret.
“He thought I betrayed him,” I whisper, resting my head on Oak’s shoulder.
“What?”
“Before the summer, Reese found out about Dad and Fiona, and he thought I’d set it up that way.”
“The fuck? That doesn’t make any sense.”
