“I haven’t really thought about it. I would probably wear a dress in a deep jewel tone.”

“Jewel tone?”

“Those are the colors like ruby, emerald, sapphire, and even amethyst. And now that I think about it, maybe a knee-length or floor-length gown with matching shoes. And, for a veil, just a small one.”

“Hmm. You would look dazzling in those colors. I would probably wear a plain, black tuxedo ….”

“Oh, sweet! But request a cummerbund that matches the color of my dress.” Rhi was sparkling.

“Your lava cake with two plates.” The server efficiently delivered their dessert. “And congratulations on your engagement.”

Rhi looked at Mars. Her eyes were wide in surprise. “How …”

“I heard it from Gerri Wilder.” The server’s grin was wide as she looked at the couple.

“How did she know? We didn’t say anything!” Rhi was flummoxed.

Mars was laughing silently. “That is one of her unexplainable talents, Rhi.”

Just then, Gerri hurried up to them, beaming. “Well, congratulations. I’ve just ordered some champagne for the three of us.”

Mars stood and pulled a chair out for Gerri. “Join us. We’re discussing the wedding.”

“Thank you. What have you decided so far?”

Rhi looked at her notes and summarized their decisions. But she’d already made the best decision of her life … letting Gerri talk her into meeting a man who could give her everything she wanted in life: love and independence.

Now she could continue to make a difference in the lives of those who needed her the most. What more could she ask for?

Maybe a few cubs of their own?
