I stepped into the bottoms. “Uh, Steph? These panties, they are way up in my—”

“Ass crack? Yes, Brazilian panties are meant to be, babe,” Steph explained. “Come on out, Salty Caramel. Let me see.”

“I don’t know,” I said unsure. I was not going to prance around in these.

“Oh, don’t be such a prude!” She scoffed playfully.

Prude.

My heart stuttered. That word.

It was like she knew. Now I didn’t want to back down. New chances arose in this new chapter of my life and not backing down from any challenge was one of them, apparently.

“Show me. Stop hiding, dammit!” Steph groaned, and I quickly plucked a tunic out of the closet to cover myself up later before I stepped in front of her. Her jaw dropped. “Wow, Dita. You look...”

Like a freaking amateur porn star.

My shoulders sagged. “I’ll go get my bathing suit.”

She reached out and caught my wrist. “Are you joking? You’re perfect. And officially promoted being my fitting model.” She twirled her finger. “Spin.”

Caught off guard, I slowly did as I was told. Steph was the first non-catty girl I’d met since attending dance classes at age thirteen. Having close friends was out of my comfort zone. Women were vile. But Steph, she smiled rainbows and unicorns.

Steph clapped her hands again, excited about her design. “I wanna smack your tight, sun-kissed butt so hard. This was exactly how I’d imagined it would look like. Late night hours well spent.”

I blushed. Even if she hadn’t complimented me as a person, I was glad to be accepted by this crazy woman. I felt like I could finally breathe a little.

“Let’s go, hot stuff.” She grabbed my hand after I covered myself up and walked us downstairs. “Misha will go nuts.”

“Misha?”

Steph twirled her index finger. “Yep. You got him wrapped around your finger tightly, girly.”

Voices carried through the kitchen, and my heart pounded when I heard the guys laugh. I almost tripped over my feet.

Misha.

He was cool and all but also part of the reason Ares paid a visit to my room. I didn’t need another reminder. We’d been into each other’s rooms, and both times were a mistake.

The guys sat in the lounge, laughing, smoking weed. The smell of it invaded my nostrils, and while I thought it smelled nice, I never felt the need to try it.

My mouth went dry when I spotted the twins. My luck was that Ares sat with his back towards us.

Misha looked the same as yesterday—untied Vans, glasses high on his nose, a lit joint between his fingers, and a lazy smile. He was handsome and laid-back. He’d probably make a fun boyfriend if he was willing to share the time he spent on his Xbox.

He set the joint at his lips and knit his brows together when he inhaled, like he needed to concentrate really hard. He saw Steph approach and tilted his head when he saw me. Rio smiled too, but Ares stayed quiet. I felt his displeasure radiate through his body when Steph and I stood next to him.

“Oh, little mama.” Misha patted his lap. “Come over, BFF.”

“Down boy.”Steph snorted and kissed his scruff. She swung an arm around his shoulders before she took my proffered spot instead, jerking up in surprise. “Jesus, Misha!”

Misha pushed his hair back and laughed. “Sorry, S, weed makes me horny. And so does you and your girl.”

I heard fingernails scratch against the lounge chairs material and realized it was Ares. While his brother and friend were teasing, his smile flattened into a tight line. I didn’t dare look into those eyes. I’d been burned by him enough today.

I cast my gaze down, seeing something pitch black wrapped around his arm. Slithering its way towards his hand, it sparkled in the sunset’s light. Spiders made me want to burn the house down, but snakes—they were so pretty.

“You got another one?” I bent down, holding my hand out in front of me. “Can I pet it?”
