“It would be nice if they couldkeeptheir cage, wouldn’t it?” I hinted at their possible stay.

Ares squinted his eyes, and finally shifted them over to Cary. “What’s going on here? You collaborating with my old man?”

Cary grabbed my mother, who’d slyly ducked away from all the attention. “Yep. And now my wife and I are off to get some drinks. Right, sweetheart?”

Mom winked at us, kissed my temple and let Cary lead her towards the bar.

Ares looked around. Surprise marred his expression when he saw his co-workers from The Zoo. “What are they all doing here?”

I shrugged, leaving him to his imagination.

His gaze widened as it landed on me. His smile fell. “I don’t have to perform or anything tonight, right? I mean, I’ll dance on stilettos with Anny next time or whatever but—”

I burst out laughing. That idea was wild. “Next time you need to do some groveling, I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Then what?”

I pecked his lips and threw my arms over his shoulders, lacing my fingers together. His hands automatically landed at my sides.

“All I’m asking is for you to smile tonight. You look so handsome when you do.”

The sides of his mouth curved slightly upwards. Others wouldn’t probably notice it, but I did. “Do I now?”

I nodded. “You really do.”

He swept his gaze over my outfit. Another Steph original. And he looked at me as if the stars aligned again. It was approved.

“You know who’s pretty as fuck?”

A giant smile touched my lips. He smacked his against mine into a searing kiss for everyone to see. Public or not, Ares didn’t care one bit anymore now everyone knew we were officially a thing. Thank God Cary didn’t hoot or holler.

“Are you finally going to tell me what this is about, or are you just going to drive me nuts?” He fingered the straps of my dress.

Steph had finally stitched some fabric together that actually covered everything up. The gorgeous mango colored satin dress shone underneath the lights and accentuated my skin tone beautifully.

I kissed his cheek and took his hand to lead him towards his colleagues.

“Oh, God, that ass,” Ares mused when I turned around.

“Keep your hands where they are,” I warned. “For now,” I added, throwing him a provocative wink over my shoulder.

“Sure you can’t find a minute to let me fuck you somewhere in the back?” he provoked.

I shot him a glance that warned him to shut it.

“Look at that,” Priscilla said. She'd greeted with a fist bump when she encountered Cary. Were they awkward around each other because she’d hit on him once? Who knew? Anyway, she wasn’t that weird around Ares. In fact, she checked him out as if I wasn’t standing right next to him.

Ares gauged her reaction and squeezed my fingers. “Keep that beady look to yourself, Priscilla. There’s enough man meat around here to keep you occupied tonight.”

Priscilla coughed. I shoved Ares with my hip, earning a shrug.

The guy named Paul, I think, came forward, laying a hand to each of our shoulders. “Your mouth, boy. I sure hope your girl here won’t get tired of it.”

“I can do all kinds twists and turns. I bet she won’t mind,” Ares told him confidently.

I rolled my eyes but got hot on the inside, anyway. Paul saw and snickered.

“Good, then thank her later,” he proposed. The red on my cheeks deepened. “She’s a godsend.”
