“Maybe all of this was meant to happen.” I don’t finish the last of my thoughts out loud, but maybe Sasha is right. It was fate, Cash. It was always meant to happen. Just one bad decision that led me to the place I was always meant to be - to you.”

My life has been filled with twists and turns, like trying to find my way out of a maze. Some paths led to a dead end, and others just left me searching for a way out. But there was only one path that led to her, and it was made of dirt.

“You’re gone for her, huh?” he asks.

I shake my head, sliding my eyes to Jack. His dark hair hangs in his face, and he looks like he could use a shave. After everything we’ve been through, it’s nice to stand here on this patio with him. No one else would understand what I’m feeling more than him.

“For the first time in a long time, I feel alive,” I tell him. “I’m not ready to give that up.”

The ocean breeze carries with it the smell of sunscreen and ruffles my hair.

“I fucked it up, Jack.”

He turns around, leaning his back to the railing and crossing his ankles in front of him. The fire still burns, the pages long gone, turned to ash, and mixed with the charred wood.

“Where do you see this going, Cash?” He doesn’t wait for me to answer. “Because she has something you don’t,” he bores his blue eyes into the side of my face as I stare at the wood planks of the deck. “Time.”

I know where he is going with this, and it’s something that I’ve thought of a lot.

“If you don’t want the same things as her, then you’re doing her a favor by walking away now.”

For once, Jack makes a lot of sense. She’s a lot younger than me. She has time and I don’t. I’ve been giving her space to deal with this, but I won’t wait forever. I know I hurt her, but there is still so much I need to tell her.

There is one thing I know for sure… I can’t walk away.

“I want it, Jack.” I can see my future with her so clearly. “I want it all.”

Now it’s time for me to get back what’s mine.

GET ON

SASHA

Till There’s Nothing Left by Cam

Sebastian hands me a coffee. “What’s this for?” I ask, surprised.

I’d been so focused on editing pictures from the last photoshoot we did with Julian Locke that I didn’t notice him come in.

I’m usually the one getting coffee for him, not the other way around.

“For all the hard work you’ve done during the first week of your internship,” he says with a grin.

Sebastian sits down in the chair opposite me, crossing his legs. He matches his office - focused, creative, and also organized. I’ve watched him work, and although sometimes he can be demanding, he’s fair and he knows his job. I can learn so much from him.

“It’s been an interesting week,” I admit, and take a sip of my coffee.

We both share a secret smile because working with bands means there is never a dull moment, and the photoshoot with Julian turned out to be more than we bargained for. I turn the laptop so he can see the photo I’m editing.

“I’m thinking of this one for the article.”

Sebastian wheels his chair closer and tilts his head. “Let me see the one before this.” He motions with his hand.

I bring up the tile view, making them bigger so he can compare the different angles and facial expressions. At the beginning of the shoot, I could tell Julian was bored. After an hour of getting nothing usable, Sebastian was frustrated and we all just needed to take a break. The space was going to be used for a fashion shoot later in the day, and the dressing room was full of ladies’ clothes and accessories.

Imagine our surprise when Julian came back from a break wearing one of the outfits meant for the fashion models - a beautiful blouse open at the neck, showing off a couple of his tattoos, a feather boa, and a pearl necklace. Rock stars have been known to be eccentric, and normally that wouldn’t be a surprise, but it wasn’t Julian’s style. It felt like he was making a statement. He grew up a child actor on a popular TV sitcom, then turned musician. Even though he had piercings and tattoos, there was a sweetness about him that dulled the sharp edges. He looked more comfortable than he had been at the beginning of the shoot, and that was all that mattered.
