“Is that the right thing to say? Do I have to put it to a vote around the table for the other brothers to stick their nose in… I fucking claim Penny! She stays!” Nix said.
Ash frowned. “Well fuck, then I’m claiming you, Nixy-boy.”
Colt gawped. “Wait, you can’t-”
“Why, ‘cause I’m a guy claiming a guy?” Ash sneered. “Colt, fuck off.”
“Ash, you can’t claim Nix if Nix has just claimed Penny-”
“Well how about I claim Ash, then, huh?” Lyle stood up now. “I’m claiming Ash, who has claimed Nix, who has claimed Penny. I’m fucking claiming them all Colt-”
“How is there going to be room for all four of you?”
“Because there is,” Penny said, determination chilling her voice. “Because Lyle isn’t sure that his heart isn’t broken already. Because Ash isn’t sure he could ever be faithful but fears being left alone. Because Nix isn’t sure he’s gay but both hates and loves it at the same time. Because I am sure that we can all find room together. ”
Colt stood back.
“It’s a fucking big risk you’re taking here, Penny.”
She didn’t waver when she looked him in the eye. “I’m all in. I’m playing for keeps.”
“Hmm. Double or quits, is that your deal?”
“Triple and no quits.”
“Big gamble. Tough odds.” Colt shook his head.
Penny did not back down. “It’s not like you love only one kid. One of your children. Sure, you only have one baby now but you’ve got another on the way. Love is exponential, you can love more than one person. Your heart always has more to give.” Penny took a deep breath.
Lyle’s eyes looked watery as he looked at Penny. He sniffed and turned, clearing his throat. “Yeah, Colt, so don’t fucking ask how this is going to work, we’re telling you-”
Colt frowned at Lyle. “You need to call me Prez-”
“I’ll fucking call you Prez when you’ve earned it, and right now you have a lot of ground to make up!” Lyle shouted back. “You go on about how you’re here for us brothers, you want to give us a home and a family… well, here is my family. And yes, it’s fucked up. Yes, I’m not gay, or even bi, yes, I have a fucking bad alcohol problem and sometimes I’m a lazy, drunk fuck-up. But goddammit, this is my family. Penny is my woman, and she’s pregnant with my baby. Ash and Nix are also her lovers, and I like to watch them fuck her. So they are important to me, too. Penny likes to be fucked by Ash and Nix, and Ash and Nix like to fuck each other. And watch me and Penny. And I like to watch it all. And we are having a baby, and we are going to raise it here, together, all of us…”
“Well, fuck me.” Colt sat back down again with a thud.
“Yeah, and do you know what else?” Ash chimed in now.
Colt stood back, chastised. “What else could their fucking be?”
Ash raised his chin defiantly. “We want the penthouse.”
Colt’s eyes bugged out. “What?”
Lyle reeled back, too. “Yeah, what?”
Ash cleared his throat. “You heard me. There’s going to be room for us all because you’re going to make room for us all. That fucking penthouse suite you’ve had Lyle renovating, it would fit us perfectly. You and April and Chase should stay in the cottage, fix it up, it could be a much better family home for you anyway. We’re taking the penthouse, as you said, we need the room.”
All of them stared at Ash.
He flicked the hair out of his eyes.
“Go upstairs and unpack your bag, Penny, baby. Top floor this time. Choose a bedroom and what color you want the kitchen counters to be. Lyle will fit them later.”
Penny was open mouthed. “I… er…”
Lyle kissed her on the forehead, Nix winked and patted her butt. Ash squeezed her shoulder and nodded.
