Page 96 of Love Like Mine

When I found out we were having twins, I almost fainted. No joke. But she took it all in stride. She was excited but also nervous and scared of the pregnancy. When she passed the first trimester and she was in the all clear, she really began to enjoy her pregnancy and show her excitement.

It wasn’t smooth sailing but we made it work. We both got a therapist to talk to alone and worked with one together to deal with any underlying issue we might have missed. In the end, we came out stronger because of it.

I look down at my two monsters and feel nothing but joy and appreciation for them. They came into our lives and flipped it upside down, but they also made it so much better.

Raine finally decided to talk to her parents, and I talked with my dad. It was a stressful time but with counseling, we worked it out. They never said anything about our relationship because I put them in their place that one time when they visited the cabin. They knew I was serious about her and wouldn’t give her up. They knew not to mess with me.

I was now the CEO of my dad’s company after he retired to spend time with her mother and his grandkids. It was tough to start talking to her mom after finding out all those things about her from what my mom left behind, but I gave it a serious try for my girl. She deserved the world and I wanted her to have her parents in it.

A splash of water to the face takes me out of my musings and when I look down at my little girl, a giggle escapes her.

“You little monster!” I growl as I tickle her before doing the same to my son. He starts giggling too. Their laughter is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. I can’t imagine my life without them in it. Making sure that they’re happy and healthy is what I live for now.

I clean the syrup that my daughter bathed her and her brother with and we play with the rubber ducks and toys before I take them out of the tub. I wrap them both up and lift them as they start kicking their little legs. They never want to get out of the bath.

When I turn around, I spot my wife standing in the doorway watching us. When the twins catch sight of her, they both start squealing and stretch their hands out to her like they haven’t seen her in ages. I roll my eyes at their antics because this is the same routine we have almost every single night.

She steps forward and grabs our son. I keep hold of our daughter as we head into our room. She kisses him on his head before placing him on the bed. She takes our daughter from me a second later and snuggles her before giving her a kiss as well.

My daughter hugs and kisses her mama, and as usual, I fall in love with the sight. I walk over to her and kiss her on the lips causing my daughter to squeal and push my face away. I roll my eyes at her antics before going to get their clothes.

Raine and I both get their clothes on, after a lot of wiggling and running behind them, before we take them to their room. We put them each in their little toddler beds and then sit on the floor between the two beds.

I sit behind Raine and wrap my arms around her. I hold her as she reads to them. They like it when she makes different voices while reading and a smile crosses my face looking at them.

Not even five minutes later, they’re both asleep and we sneak out of their room. We head to the living room and snuggle up in front of the fireplace as the snow begins to fall outside. I put on a movie for us to watch as I throw the blanket over us.

“How was your day?” I ask her as I kiss her forehead. “And your therapy session?”

“Both were good.”

“I’m glad everything’s going well. We’ll get dinner in a few,” I tell her.

“Mmhmm,” she mumbles.

She’s lying with her head on my chest, neither one of us paying attention to the movie. This is what our life has been like for the past two years. Every night when the twins fall asleep, we always do something together, whether it’s watching a movie or snuggling or me just staying by her side while she studies.

Life may not be perfect but it’s ours. I have loved every moment of it from the time we settled our differences to now and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
