“I don’t know that for certain, but I would guess there are at least a few who frequent one or the other of the two clubs.”

“What does this have to do with the murders?” When she tried to jerk away, I tightened my grip, inching even closer. I needed to feel her in my arms, to know that she was alright. I wrapped my other hand around the back of her neck, digging my fingers into her skin. Her heated breath skipped across my cheek, and I was instantly aroused, more so than I should be.

“I don’t know but neither you nor I are going any further into this ridiculous investigation. Do you hear me?”

When she remained silent, I pulled her onto her toes.

“Do. You. Hear. Me?”

“Yes. Yes, sir.”

“I want to believe you, but I can’t.”

“I’m trying to obey you.”

“Is that what you think you were doing?” I shifted my hand to her scalp, grabbing a handful of hair and tugging.

“What will you do if I don’t?” The woman was goading me, acting as if there was no way for her to get hurt.

I glowered at her, allowing a slight growl. “This isn’t playtime.”

“I never said it was.”

The woman made me crazy. “Then you need to understand what is happening.”

“Give me your perspective, however crazy it is.” Even now she remained rebellious, her eyes sparking with the same fire I’d been attracted to in the first place.

“What I do suspect is that this group is and will continue driving the police into believing it has something to do with Carnal Sins and Club Darkness. That has some people scared. When they’re scared, they’re even more dangerous.”

“What if Davidson is the real killer?”

“He’s not a member of Club Darkness. He wasn’t the person you saw.”

The frown crossing her face indicated she didn’t believe me. At this point, I didn’t care.

“Are you certain?” she asked, pressing one hand against my chest.

“Gregory told me himself.”

She scrunched her nose and struggled in my hold, crinkling her fingers around my shirt. “That’s not possible. He looked me in the eyes. I know it was him.”

“He looked you in the eyes? Are you kidding me?”

“I think so. I mean it was dark, but I could swear he knew I was tracking him.”

Exhaling, I lowered my head. “Do you understand what you did was wrong?”

“Do you understand I’m an officer of the court?”

“You can’t go off halfcocked.”

“What about you? You think you’re my hero.”

“Just your protector because you need one, lady. You really do.” I couldn’t be angry with her any longer. Instead, I was relieved, so much so my heart ached. I’d been a fool to take her there. Damn it. I couldn’t lose her. When I captured her mouth, she arched her back, mewing into the kiss.

As she wiggled, shifting her hips back and forth across me, the friction became explosive as it always did. She pursed her lips, allowing my tongue to slip inside. The taste of her sweet mouth was irresistible, my body aching to have her underneath me, writhing while I drove my cock deep inside.

She slipped her other arm around my neck, tugging on my hair. The scent of her desire would possibly make me crazy, but she needed a lesson that she wouldn’t forget so easily.
