My breath shudders in my chest as rage takes over my entire body. I’m vibrating with it.

“It’s okay, Aud,” Felix says, stepping next to me, half shielding me with his body. He faces his parents with a sneer of his own. “Don’t talk to my omega that way. I don’t care who you are. You lost the right to judge my life when you tossed me out for being a beta.”

“Your omega,” his mom scoffs, as if she is talking to a child. “Son, betas don’t get omegas.”

“Then it is probably a good thing he is an sigma, you judgemental sacks of shit,” I growl, attempting to push past Felix. “You want to see my marks? I’ve got three of them, one from each of myalphas.”

The two of them pale, their attention fixing on their son. Not that I think they have the right to call him that.

“You presented as an sigma?” his father asks.

“Son, you’re an alpha?” His mom presses her hands to her mouth as tears gather in her eyes like it is the happiest day of her life.

I force myself between them. This is not happening. “Fuck you both. You lost all of your rights when you were piece of shit parents and kicked your kid out because he wasn’t what you thought he should be. And it was for something he couldn’t control, so fuck you both to hell and back. Come on, Felix, let’s get out of here. The park has lost its appeal.”

I tangle my fingers with his and tug, but he stays rooted to the spot. Turning slowly, my heart breaks for him as he takes in his parents. Pain shines clearly from the depths of his soul.

“Audrey is right. You two aren’t my family. I have a new family now, and it will never include you two. Who does that? Kicks their teenage son out when he can’t give them what they want. You were supposed to take care of me and love me unconditionally,” he pauses, his fingers flexing in mine. “Being a beta isn’t a bad thing. I did it for years. It is a little freeing if I’m honest. No restrictions or expectations placed on you. And I had the support from my pack that the people that were supposed to care for me the most didn’t even give me. Now I have the best of all three worlds. So whatever relationship we have with blood, that is broken. There are no second chances, or tentative relationships. And when I become a father, my children will never know the pain you inflicted on me.”

Their mouths hang open as we stride away, leaving everything behind. I hold Felix’s hand as we move in silence. I feel a sadness inside for him. If I could, I would put him back together and make sure he never hurts again.

We walk around a building further into the park, and he catches me off guard as he presses my back to the stone wall. Then kisses me hard. “You were fucking amazing back there, like an avenging angel ready to defend me from the monsters in the dark,” he says, breaking away a little with panting breaths. “It was so damn sexy.”

I grin into another kiss as he deepens it, pressing his hips into mine as his fingers dig into my ass, holding me close.

“Audrey, you are everything.”

My stomach flips. He kisses down my neck in a frantic, wanton, wet presses of his lips. And I arch my neck to give him better access.

“Mmm, I’ve wanted to say that to them for years,” he says, pulling back with a grin. “Judgemental sacks of shits, God, I can’t wait to tell Saint and Austin about this.” He laughs and kisses my nose.

“You’re okay?” I ask. I squeeze his shoulders as I watch his face.

I mean, it is clear he is okay, but he’s Felix, and he hides behind humor, so maybe he’s hiding.

“I am. I promise,” he says, dipping his head to meet my eyes directly. “Are you okay?”

“You mean them calling me names? I’m fine. I was madder about how they talked to you.”

He chuckles, his eyes crinkling as amusement fills his green eyes. “I was pretty sure you were going to go all Saint on them and beat them into the ground, defending my honor.”

“The thought crossed my mind,” I reply with a laugh.

He threads his fingers with mine and then turns from our tiny hiding place, leading me behind him. “Come on, my little firecracker.”

I snort. “Firecracker?”

He shrugs and tugs me under his arm and close to his side as we walk. “I’m trying out nicknames. That one was a six.”

I hum happily. He can call me whatever he wants.

CHAPTER54

Saint

Austin leans backin his office chair, a tumbler of bourbon in his grip, his face serious. I look up from the contract his father had laid out, naming Audrey as Austin’s property, basically. She wouldn’t like that one bit, even if Austin is a scent match.

“Why do you have this?” I ask, holding it out.
