“I think Scarlett and Noah invited everyone. You know the towns won’t miss a party.”

“Alex, congratulations,” Beau said as he put his hand out to him.

Alex shook his hand. “Thanks, Beau.”

“You’re welcome. Mr. Reeves, sir, how are you?”

“I’m fine, Beau. You?”

As the men chatted, Alex watched Dylan turn to look at him and smile, then she headed toward him. She wrapped her arm around his waist when she reached him, and he put his arm around her shoulders. She’d healed and had no pain.

“Dylan? This is Beau McCallister. He’s a livestock agent out of the same office with me.”

“Mr. McCallister, it’s nice to meet you.”

“Beau, and it’s nice to meet you too. This time in a better situation.”

Dylan frowned and looked at Alex.

“Beau is the agent I called the night you were shot.”

“Oh, my God.” Dylan hugged Beau. “Thank you for getting there so fast.”

“I don’t live far, so it wasn’t a problem. I’m just glad you’re okay. This man was going nuts.” Beau put his hand on Alex’s shoulder.

“Wait. McCallister? Where have I heard that name before?” Dylan frowned.

“You met Luke. He’s Beau’s brother. He helped me find Toga.”

“I remember now. I do appreciate what you did, Beau.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Mr. Reeves, I’m glad you could make it.”

“Dylan, honey, I wouldn’t miss this for the world, and since I’m going to be your father-in-law, please call me Brooks, or Dad. Whatever you prefer.”

“Thank you… Dad.” Dylan laughed when Brooks seemed to puff out his chest at being called Dad.

“Dylan?”

“Natalie. I’m so glad you came,” Dylan said as she hugged her. “Alex, this is Natalie Abbott, Peyton’s mother. Natalie, this is Alex Reeves, my fiancé.”

“Mrs. Abbott, it’s nice to meet you. This is my father, Brooks Reeves. Dad, Natalie Abbott.”

“Mrs. Abbott, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I met your daughter earlier and I can see where Peyton gets her looks,” Brooks said with a grin.

Alex watched a blush appear in Natalie’s cheeks as she smiled at his father.

“And I can see where Alex gets his,” Natalie said as she put her hand out to him, and he shook it.

Alex glanced at Dylan to see her smiling as she looked at them, then she looked at him, and winked. He chuckled, took her hand, and looked at his father.

“We’ll let you two get acquainted. We’re going to make the rounds,” Alex said, then led Dylan through the crowd of people.

They walked back the hallway toward the bathrooms, then Alex put her back against the wall.

Dylan leaned against the wall with her hands behind her. Alex stepped in front of her and placed one hand on the wall beside her head, and the other on his hip as he gazed into her eyes. He leaned in close and hovered his lips above hers. He never took his eyes from hers as he whispered against her lips.
