I swallowed. “I’m sorry for embarrassing you like that.”

“Please,” he snorted. “Growl at omegas all you want, but know I’ve got eyes only for you.”

“Okay.” That was good, I thought, because it hadn’t felt optional when I’d done it.

“And I’ve never been so turned on in my life.”

I snapped my gaze back to him and saw the truth in his eyes. “Really?”

“Uh-huh. Just like all the scent marking I found in my room when I grabbed my jacket.”

Oh… Well, I hadn’t expected him to find it so quickly. My heart still raced thinking about it. “That wasn’t too much?”

“I loved it.”

My chest warmed with pride at that. Okay. Ransom liked it. Maybe Dusk wouldn’t be mad after all. I wasn’t very good at giving my alphas space.

Next, we stopped at a beauty shop and Ransom picked out a bunch of hair products. It definitely cheered me up when he told me half were for me, though I’d have to get him to explain how to use them, though.

Last on the to-do list was apparently tech, and when we entered the phone shop, Ransom looked about at all the phones with a rather lost expression on his face.

“I’m behind,” he said. “What model do you have?” he asked me.

“Uh… I don’t,” I said.

“You don’t have a phone? Oh, for fuck’s sake. Why didn’t Dusk get you one?”

“He… he thought I was going to run away. And anyway, I don’t know what I’d do with a phone.”

Ransom rolled his eyes and bought each of us one based on the shop worker’s recommendation. Then he bought us both laptops—despite my protests that I didn’t know how to use one.

“It can help you with your investigation,” he said. “Plus, the guy said this one is simple to use.”

Investigationdefinitely meant the Dusk and Umbra stuff.

“I’ve got all my textbooks now.”

And I had a list of things I needed to recheck. The untethering, for example, and how exactly bonds and auras interacted with a pack breaking. They’d lost their third member and stayed intact. I needed to understand the mechanismsbehind that so I knew where they might have diverged from the normal.

I had Bolin’s list of course work, so I wouldn’t get behind, but honestly, it was a lot of stuff I was already familiar with. Instead, I planned on using my study time to do a deep dive into a few things I needed to brush up on in order to hash out some of my theories on Dusk and Umbra.

“Well,” Ransom said. “With a laptop, you can find studies that aren’t in the textbooks, and with a phone, you can text Decebal and ask him if he can dig up any more secret studies that the textbooks will never publish.”

“Secret like… banned?” I asked.

“Doesn’t the Institute have a running list of shit they don’t want accessible?”

“Yes…”

“Decebal’s pack mate can get into all sorts of shit like that.”

“Really?”

“Yup.”

Dammit. Iwouldhave to learn how to use the laptop. I had been watching when Umbra tried to show me my way around it; I’d just not wanted to.

But secret Arkology studies?
