The little boy bursts into tears. His mom shoots me an annoyed look.

“I’m so sorry!” I apologize as Minjee and I keep running.

We manage to lose most of the people chasing us. But it’s only a matter of time before they’ll catch up.

Minjee leads me to a dark back alley. For a split second, I question her judgment.

Then, we come across a sleek blue motorbike that lookslike it came straight out of an action movie.

“Whoa,” I say. “Is this your bike? I thought you took the subway like I did.”

“Nah,” replies Minjee, taking the keys out from her jacket pocket. “I rode my bike. I just figured it’d be easier if we met at the stop. Here.”

She tosses me a helmet. “Get on. Hold on tight so you don’t fall off.”

Minjee straddles the seat, and I get on behind her. Like she suggested, I wrap my arms around her, so we’re awfully close, practically pressed against each other. But the most surprising part is how natural it feels. Minjee’s body fits perfectly against mine.

“You ready?” Minjee asks, bringing me out of my thoughts. “Because they’re gaining on us again.”

I look behind us and see two guys running toward us in the alley. They’re both carrying professional-grade cameras. Paparazzi.

“Yup,” I say. “Let’s go!”

Minjee presses down on the gas. The motorbike roars to life, shooting out of the alley and onto the road. I squeeze Minjee tightly, and if my vise grip bothers her, she doesn’t say anything.

People spot us and yell at us again, but it doesn’t matter. Adrenaline shoots down my spine as we whizz past them in a blink of an eye. I feel so free, like how I felt while riding theroller coaster. By the time Minjee’s bike joins the busy Seoul traffic, we’ve completely lost our pursuers.

“That was amazing!” I shout as Minjee’s bike weaves through cars. “Where did you learn how to drive a motorbike like that?”

“A crappy ex-boyfriend,” Minjee replies with a giggle. “He was a bad kisser, but at least he was useful for something!”

We laugh, and as we continue riding below the sparkling city lights, I realize I can’t keep ignoring how I really feel about Minjee.
