Seven
Isee red the moment the doors swing open.
Wasting no time, I throw myself across the room. Grabbing a handful of Luci’s hair, I yank his head back and toss him off the bed and away from Evi.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?” I hiss at him, allowing myself a brief glance back over my shoulder at the girl just as Dante leans down over her limp body.
Luci wipes Evi’s blood and desire from his mouth before giving me a cocky half-grin and shaking his head.
“I thought you of all people would knowexactlywhat I was doing.”
“Don’t test me, Luci,” I snarl, knives spinning through my fingers as I ready myself to lunge at him. “What were you doingfeedingon her?”
“Oh, get off your high horse,” Luci scoffs. “I watched you feed on her too, don’t act like this is some great crime.”
“Ididn’tfeed on her. I only bit her.”
Luci’s grin falters, his brow furrowing as he cocks his head to the side.
“What do you mean?”
“You and Dante aren’t the only ones with powers anymore.”
“What is he talking about?” Luci asks, his eyes shifting to Dante.
“It’s true. Seven’s bite isn’t like our own.”
“The gold venom,” Luci mumbles absentmindedly, what remains of his grin falling from his face as his eyes widen in shock.
“Dante, I … I fed on the girl. My venom—”
“I know,” Dante says, cutting him off. “Forgive me, Evi.”
Luci takes a step forward, and I move to block him from getting closer as Dante pulls Evi’s body to the edge of the bed.
“Dante,” Luci growls as he realizes what Dante’s about to do.
“You know what needs to be done. Seven, keep him at bay.”
Dante drops to his knees, pulling Evi’s legs over his shoulders just as Luci darts around me and throws himself toward them.
I’d expected as much. Spinning around, I manage to land a kick to the back of his knees and an elbow to the back of his neck, sending him crashing to the floor.
“I expected you to be stronger given what you just had for breakfast,” I sneer, sheathing my knives as drop down on top of him. Straddling his back, I straighten both of his arms behind him, locking my own around him to pin him beneath me before he has a chance to push himself up onto his feet.
“You know it takes time to kick in,” Luci grunts.
“Honestly, it’s been so long that I’d nearly forgotten,” I retort.
Luci lets out a frustrated growl as Dante’s mouth dips between Evi’s legs as he begins to suck out the bite’s venom. I can’t help but notice that he’s angled himself to make sure that he doesn’t touch her more than is necessary to suck the venom from the puncture wounds Luci’s fangs made.
I know it’s the right thing to do given the circumstances, but I can’t say I’d have the same level of control if I was in his shoes.
“Don’t touch her,” Luci snaps, thankfully distracting me from my own less than honorable thoughts, as he struggles to get out from under me.
“You know what has to be done. Fun, isn’t it? Getting cock blocked by another man while someone else tastes your woman,” I spit.
