Jon

By the time that they showered and got dressed, they had missed their reservation. Archer convinced the owner to give them a table still and it didn’t hurt that he had eaten there every day for the past two weeks and the guy seemed to like Archer. His guy could be quite the charmer when he wanted to be, and even the French seemed to notice.

They were led back to a little table in the dark back corner of the restaurant, and it was private and perfect. “This seems like a great place,” Jon said. “I can see why you like it.”

“The food’s even better than the atmosphere,” Archer promised. Grace and Jon let him order for them since his French was perfect, and he at least knew what he was ordering.

“How did things go with Jordan?” Grace asked.

“He was very understanding. Hell, he was completely on board with the three of us and that threw me off my game, you know? I guess I was expecting him to give me a little push back, but he didn’t. He told me that he was always around if I needed someone to talk to and that’s how we left things. I guess I was worried over nothing,” he said.

“Yeah, I told my parents about us, and they were cool about everything,” Gracie admitted.

“Your parents are the most laid back out of all of our folks,” Archer said.

“Right,” Jon agreed. “I think that telling my parents about us might not go over so well.” His parents were kind of uptight when it came to things like men being together and putting Gracie between them wouldn’t be enough to deter them from being upset about his relationship status.

“Do you think that you’ll ever tell them about us?” Grace asked. She reached across the table and took his hand into hers. Archer did the same with his other hand.

“I’m not sure,” he admitted. “I’d like to believe that someday I’ll tell them. But I’m just not ready to deal with the lecture that they’ll give. It’s all still too new, you know?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Archer said. “It’s one of the reasons why I haven’t told my mother yet. I just want to keep this to myself for a while longer and enjoy the three of us without her input.”

“Do you think she won’t approve?” Grace asked.

“Not so much that she won’t approve, but that she’ll try to tell me that I’m ruining my life and all that shit. She has never been a traditionalist, but when it comes to Gracie, she’ll fight me adding someone else to the mix—even you, Jon. I mean, I know that my mother adores you, but she won’t be all right with the three of us—not at first. I’ll have to tell her at some point.” He shrugged as if it was no big deal, but Jon knew that it was. It was a big deal for him to have to tell his mother and father and they adored Archer. They thought of him as a second son and his mother believed that Gracie hung the stars and the moon. But that wouldn’t help either of them be okay with the three of them being together.

“You know, at some point, when we have kids, they’ll have to be told,” Archer said.

“Kids,” Jon breathed.

“Well, you do want kids, right?” Grace asked him. He hadn’t given it too much thought, especially since he didn’t have a significant other to discuss the matter with.

“I haven’t really thought about it,” he admitted. “I mean, before this thing between the three of us happened, I didn’t have anyone else in my life. I guess it was a moot point before now. I think I’d like to have kids, but how would this work between the three of us?” he asked.

“Well, it would work just like any other family would work,” Archer insisted.

“Except our kid will have two dads and a mom,” Grace added. “I mean, I think that sounds like one lucky kid. He or she will have more love than humanly possible and will always have supportive, understanding parents standing by.”

“When you say it like that, it sounds so easy,” Jon said. “But what about all of the other shit that goes along with our lifestyle? I mean, you have to know that other parents will be secretly judging us, as well as some of our kid’s teachers. Is that being completely fair to a child—to have to deal with everyone’s judgments of us?” Jon asked.

“There will always be judgmental people in the world, Jon. We can’t help that,” Grace said.

“But we can teach our kids not to be like them. We can teach our kids compassion and understanding to help make this world a better place,” Archer said. Jon nodded and Archer laughed. “Your head is agreeing with us, but your face isn’t,” he said.

“Your facial expressions do give you away, Jon,” Gracie giggled. “Listen, we don’t have to worry about all of this right now. We can talk about it and work through everything in time. For now, let’s just enjoy our time here in France.”

“Agreed,” Archer said.

She smiled at them both and if Jon wasn’t mistaken, she even winked at Archer. “Speaking of enjoying our time in France,” she breathed. “I’d love to go out and do a little shopping in town tomorrow and I know that it’s not really either of your thing. How about you two stay back at the suite and catch up while I have some fun in town?” she asked. Jon was pretty sure that this was all a setup, but he didn’t care. He loved the idea of spending some one-on-one time with his guy. He had already gotten to do that for two weeks with Gracie, back in the states. Now, he wanted nothing more than a few hours alone with Archer.

“Sounds good to me,” Archer said, smiling over at Jon.

“I’m in,” Jon agreed. “I guess none of us should play poker,” he said.

“Poker?” Archer asked. “What does that have to do with any of this?”

“Well, you both just said that I have an awful poker face because my facial expressions give me away,” he said.
