“Fuck, Akari,” he panted.

“I am,” I moaned, sliding myself slowly up and down his length.

Pleasure built within me, and I cried out as I shattered on his erection. He snarled as I lost control, and his magic flooded the air, but he didn’t lose it with me.

“Can I roll you over?” He growled at me, as I came down from the high, blissed out but still needy as hell.

He wanted to know if it would trigger me—and I didn’t think it would. Not while he was making me feel so good, and his magic was soaking the air, making it smell so damn good I was positive I would never forget the moment.

“Hell yes,” I breathed.

A moment later, I was on my back and he was positioned over me.

For a moment, I wasn’t sure whether or not I could really handle it.

But then he moved his hips, and I was lost to the pleasure and the fierce need in Espen’s gaze.

We moved together, our bodies one as we brought each other to the brink. And when we shattered, our magic combined in what felt like an endless orgasm.

It eventually ended, though, and we came down from the high in each other’s arms, laying on our sides together on the mattress. My chest rose and fell quickly, as thoughts and emotions and desires and joy that was both mine and Espen’s raced through me and around me.

Tears stung my eyes at the completeness I felt. Not only because we were mates, but because I’d found someone who protected me, someone who cared for me, someone who wanted to create a family with me, someone who wanted to be with me.

Someone who loved me.

And I loved him too.

“You’re the most beautiful creature in existence,” Espen said, his voice a harsh whisper. “In body, mind, magic, and soul. It is a privilege to be your mate.”

Tears dripped from my eyes and down the side of my face, wetting the pillow beneath my cheek. “And it’s a privilege to be yours.

Our lips reconnected, our bodies still together, and I felt the rest of Espen’s magic settle in my chest as we began to move together again.

We madelove until the moon began to set, and Espen’s body remained relaxed even as he reasserted his control over it.

When we slipped into our clothing and headed down the stairs for breakfast, finding Diora, Namir, Lavee, Jesh, Laith, and Vena already seated in the king’s corner of the room.

My mate was more relaxed than I had ever seen him as we crossed the space, our fingers laced together and our arms brushing as we walked.

Everyone at the table looked calm, though Laith and Namir looked a bit worse for the wear. I imagined that adjusting to such a big change in the amount of magic they held was difficult, but because it was necessary, I didn’t pity them.

They had prolonged this day, but everyone knew it had to come.

Espen dragged his thumb over my knuckles as we squeezed into the booth, greeting everyone who was already there. Grins and congratulations went around the group, and Espen pulled me into his lap to “save space”.

My eyes scanned the group as we chatted and ate, my attention lingering on Vena.

She looked so damned good. Happy, and healthy, and strong.

When my gaze slid to Diora, more happiness flooded me.

They were alive and well.

I had done what I intended—and we had all come out on top.

No threats hung over our heads, and no destruction threatened to take us. There was just life, and love, and friendship.

When we’d gathered in that inn after our escape, I had been planning for and searching for revenge, but I should’ve listened to Vena back then.
