“You gave me no choice, sweet cheeks.” He takes a step closer.

“But you ignored me. All week you—”

“Fuck, Liv. I wasn’t ignoring you. I was giving you space. I was trying to figure out a way to fix things.”

“And did you?” I challenge.

“The jury’s still out on that.” His eyes flash to Abigail.

“I’m going to go find Tally. Just… promise me you’ll hear him out.” She leans in and whispers, “Everyone deserves a second chance.”

Abigail disappears into the shop, leaving me alone with Reese.

“How are you?” he asks, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Annoyed. Confused. Did I say annoyed?”

“You did. Come with me?”

“Why?”

“Because, Olivia Marie Beckworth,” he steps forward and tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear, “I need to fix this.” His head drops to mine, my heart squeezing at his proximity.

“I need you to let me fix this.”

REESE

Ithought she was going to say no.

The way her face dropped when I showed myself, the way her eyes darkened with anger and her lips twisted in irritation. I was convinced she was going to turn me down and ruin everything Abigail and I had been planning.

Asking for her help had been a risk. She could have immediately gone running to Olivia to spill my ideas, but I was confident. I’d seen the way she looked between the two of us when we’d been close. She wanted us to talk. She wanted her new friend to be happy again. And I had to hope it was enough to get her on side.

Thankfully, it was, because Abigail jumped at the chance to help. And it turns out, it was a killer decision, because that girl is a true romantic who is going to help me steal back Olivia’s heart.

I think…

She might have agreed to come with me, but since the moment her arse hit my passenger seat, she hasn’t said a word. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I figure that she could have immediately started shouting and attempting to rip me a new one, so there is that.

It’s not until we’ve left Saints Cross far behind in the distance and I begin to slow to take the turning we need that she finally twists to look at me.

“If you’re about to take me into the middle of nowhere in the hope that no one will find my body after you’re finished with me, can I suggest you let me out here?”

“I’d never hurt you, Liv,” I say, although I wince as the words leave my lips.

She scoffs in response, folds her arms over her chest and turns back toward the window, acting as if I’m not even here.

I get it. I deserve it. But fuck. It hurts.

I turn off the quiet road and onto a dirt track. It’s so dark now that the sign to the place we’re heading toward isn’t visible, giving Olivia no clue what to expect.

The tree cover overhead makes it even darker as we bump down the seemingly endless track.

“This had better be good,” Olivia mutters.

“I think it’s your idea of heaven,” I confess.
